Differential Calculus on Normed Spaces: A Course in Analysis

Finally an inexpensive first volume to pair with Cartan's "Differential Forms"
I bought the 2nd volume of this classic set by Cartan from Dover a few years ago. I started to work through it only to find references to the 1st volume. This is that first volume which has been out of print for a while. This is a great value. The printing is quite nice, much like a Dover edition. In addition Karo Maestro has written an interesting preface and added a few pages of advice for self-studying math students. Technically, the title to this book is "Differential Calculus", it explains how to differentiate over a wide class of examples with proper attention to abstract linear algebra. I suspect Cartan gave such a title as an indication of what should be. As in, this is the calculus I we ought to be studying. But, I speculate. I haven't had a chance to study this text at the moment, but, on first glance it is quite beautiful. Well worth the money. A great addition for any student of advanced calculus.

Don’t buy
The text size is incredibly small. Even my young 25 year old eyes cannot read this printing of the book.Read Cartan—he’s fantastic—but find a different version of this book.

Terrible quality, possibly a bootleg printing
This review refers to the physical book I received, not the contents. The printing quality of the book I received is terrible. So terrible, in fact, that I'm fairly sure this book has been re-printed without permission and is not an authorized copy. Some examples,-The printed area covers approximately 50% of the page, with all the rest just white space. This means the font is so small it's barely legible.-Figures look as though they've been scanned from somewhere and re-printed.-The cover is printed at an offset, with the title starting on the spine of the book.I don't know if there is an actual 2017 edition of this book, but even if it exists then this one most probably isn't it.

Important and great book, truly horrible print quality.
While the book itself is a masterpiece, unfortunately the person who published this did not spend 10 minutesto design a cover, which looks exactly as horribly bad as shown on amazon's picture. It is pixelated, with a strange mix of pixelated equations and horrible font.Furthermore, the publisher could not resist the urge to insert political ramblings into the preface which further degrade the quality of this edition. While the book content itself is independent of the truly peculiar aesthetic choices, I would never recommend buying it again. You will make a better choice of printing it on demand at a random print shop.

DO NOT BUY... UNREADABLE!
The print only occupies about 50% of the page... almost like someone xeroxed the book and then printed it!

Poor reprint
This is a reprint of Cartan's book by an amateur mathematician. Unfortunately, even the print job is very amateur, and the printing doesn't even fit properly onto the page. Just find the pdf of the book somewhere and print it, and you'll get a better quality book. A definite return item.
