Clearly written with projects to try
This is a definite keeper in my quilt library. You never really know what your getting in a quilt book. It has great ideas and sample patterns to play with. If your familiar with Angela's work, the patterns are geared towards negative space. I enjoyed reading through and seeing her work. And zooming in, wishing I could touch them.

Excellent resource for machine quilting
Angela's book is the best book on quilting I have ever read, and I own a lot of books. The chapters each have a focus such as "Quilting Fills in the Details", Quilting Provides Contrast" and "Quilting Supplies Texture". Each chapter begins with a definition of its topic. "Texture...the way a quilt actually feels...or how it visually "feels" when you look at it." She continues with tips for great texture and discussion of what texture looks like. Finally there is a project to use the ideas you have learned. Her descriptions are brief and thorough.Another thing that makes this book really special are the drawings from Angela's sketchbook, that let you understand her design process. The drawings are lovely, and make the book worth owning. The quilt examples in the book are modern quilting at its finest. This is the only book you will ever need to learn to use machine quilting to take your quilt from nice to amazing!

Not as great as the first book
I absolutely love Angela Walter's first book, and I recommend it to every quilter I know. Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed in this book. I was hoping for more free motion quilting ideas and tips - perhaps a more advanced version of the second book? This book includes patterns for creating quilt tops and tips for quilting them. I don't typically follow a pattern, although I do appreciate the inspiration I get from them. And while I like the quilting tips, all of the quilting designs used in this book are the designs that were introduced in the first book. There are many quilters out there who will love and benefit from this book, and I will still recommend it to those who I feel will enjoy it. Perhaps I was just not the target audience for this book.

Yay For Angela's Imagination!
My copy of this book is already becoming worn and tattered, a sure sign that this book is loved. Thank you Angela for delivering quilters from feathers, feathers, plumes, and more feathers (yawn) This book breaks you from the mold of traditional quilting that is stilted, and frozen inside the borders of predictability.Buy this book, and come fly with Angela away from frozen images. Beautiful quilts can be made using these ideas. Also, we need more 'modern' and contemporary quilting ideas to get inspiration from. This is the 21st century, and Angela Walters will be a leader!

Perfect quilting for the "modern quilt"
This book is perfect for the modern quilting that the designs are simple and straight forward. The pics are clear and the narratives are easy to follow. The designs are doable, even for the novice. I use the book as a reference tool each time I'm designing the quilting portion of the overall process. I like quilting that complements the quilt top design rather than becoming the dominant feature. I highly recommend this book and look forward to Angela's next work.

A great book on modern quilting ideas
The book is informativ, simple to follow instructions and very interesting reading. I also have her book "Freemotion Quilting" which I love. If you do not have much quilting experience, I recommend to by the book "Freemotion Quilting" first. That book have detailed instructions on lot of the quilting patterns in this new book.I like to be presented of the contributors of the book and the idea behind each work.I would recommend this book to any quilter who love to explore new ways of quilting.

In the Studio with Angela Walters: Machine-Quilting Design Concepts...
As of now, I rate it a four star book. The learning curve, for me, when it comes to quilting designs, is high and I need to spend much more time with this book to absorb all that it has to teach me. I believe it is a book that will grow on a quilter reegardless of experience or expertise.

She is a great teacher. With every book and video I learn more. The best advice was to look not at the needle but slightly ahead of it to where you are stitching too. Like when you drive a car, you don't look at the hood but you look ahead. That one hint worked out a lot of my quilting problems.

Not as enjoyable as her previous book but still a good manual for the home free motion quilter.

Quilting for modern quilters
At the same time I bought both of Angela Walters' books. I like both of them and am glad to have them. Studied them well before I decided how to quilt my latest quilt.
