Granddaughter loves this book.
My 5 year old granddaughter wanted to know more about Egypt and mummies and we saw this book whilst looking for a reference book suitable for her age group. She asked if she could have it, so it was bought as a Xmas present alongside a reference book. She loves it and goes back to 'read' it regularly. I would recommend this.

Fabulous second book in the Brownstone series
The second book in the Brownstone family collection, this is just as fantastic as Arthur and the Golden Rope, with wonderful lovely illustrations and an exciting adventure as Marcy must save her dad (Arthur) from the snake underneath the Sphinx. A gentle introduction to ancient Egyptian mythology. My 6yo loves to have the story read over and again at bedtime. The best kind of review!

Beautiful but not quite as good as Arthur and the Golden Rope
Having read and very much enjoyed Arthur and the Golden Rope, the first of Todd-Stanton's Brownstone's Mythical Collection, I was looking forward to the second instalment, Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx. Unsurprisingly it's beautiful to look at. Todd-Stanton is clearly a very talented illustrator. I've read the book to my son half a dozen times now and the story itself is just okay. I didn't enjoy Marcy's tale as much as Arthur's. I appreciated the focus on Egyptian mythology but child conquers his/her fear of the dark has been done a million times before. Difficult to criticise too much, I just expected a little bit more. Regardless the next book is still an automatic purchase, so Todd-Stanton is clearly doing something right. Bonus points for Flying Eye's stellar production values, as ever

Amazing illustrations, kids love these books
This series is fantastic. My Year 4 class absolutely love these books and so do I. The illustrations are amazing. I've read this book so many times with different reading groups and I still spot new things in the pictures each time.

What a pleasure to read!
This book is an absolute joy. I bought it for my two girls (aged 7 and 6) and they were captivated by it - as was I! The story is gripping and yet somehow wonderfully understated — and of course accompanied by the most wonderful illustrations. I immediately went out and bought all the other books by Joe Todd Stanton.

Amazing art and a great story
This book goes a bit deeper than most children's story books into the feelings that parents and children inspire in each other. Specifically, the daughter is worried that her dad is disappointed in her. It turns out fine in the end, but it was deeper than I was expecting. The art, though, is fantastic. There's a section towards the end that's a cutaway of Marcy spelunking through a cave that I just adore. If you liked Hilda or mythology, you can't go wrong with these Brownstone books.
