Purchased for a novice teen bonsai enthusiast. The book is the best part with slick colorful engaging photos on every page. The whole things smells bad. I think it’s the bag it comes in. The package can be easily opened the repackaged for gifting, so I aired it all out a few days and washed the tools. If helped some, but would need to air out a few weeks to get rid of the odor (chemical or oil smell). The heads on the shovels and rakes come off easily, so while I had it open I took them off and applied some e6000 glue to the handles and stuck them back on. Scissors are sharp. Pleased with this purchase.

I am a beginner at growing bonsai and I bought this product. First, I would like to say that overall I like the product and that it fulfilled my needs as a beginner. I'll write what I think are a quick Pro-Cons to see if I can help future buyers/planters choice. Overall, I would recommend this product as at the price-point it is perfect for a beginner in growing Bonsai. Pros: -Low price point allows for a beginner to have all the necessary tools without breaking the bank. The 101 book is in my opinion the most valuable part of all of that came with the set. -Pouch with the tools/size of tools made it very handy to stay organized and I have even taken it with me when I had to take my tree with me on a trip as I couldn't find anyone to take care of it. - With the exception of one (below in cons), all tools were in good condition and for the little time I have used them have performed up to all my expectations. -Small business owned, always preferrable in my book. Cons: -The small rake head came off while it was in the pouch, never been used. Was able to put back on and crimp it on better with vice grips. Would recommend crimping the heads of the rake and spades better or keeping an eye for this in quality control. -The only thing this toolkit is missing that I needed was a branch cutter. Both cutters provided aren't very suitable to cut branches with. Adding a branch cutter into this beginners kit would make it extremely well rounded. Thanks for your time, I appreciate the product.

My sister got me a bonsai for Mother's day. Now I have to keep this thing alive. This was the most efficient starter kit I found. Every basic tool you need with a beautifully pictured book. The book takes you step by step and what to get next. Don't get kits with too much in it like wires and stuff. Just keep it alive with this kit then read the book it comes with. Then you'll feel more comfortable moving on.😉 Good luck! Namaste!

I really like this kit, because it is the perfect thing for beginners, like myself. The book really helped, and I was able to buy and trim a bonsai yesterday. It is a really good gift for other people who are looking into bonsai, since the tools are sturdy and will last a long time. I am loving this bonsai kit, and I would buy again.

Just got this today, decided on this kit since I'm a beginner and the price was decent. Went through the reviews here first before I finally decided on the product. Overall, the set is ok. The booklet is helpful for beginners and the scissors is sharp / useful. The bamboo brush is really stiff and I'm hoping it will loosen up a bit with more use with it. My biggest issue with the kit is the shear. The shear came in with some kind of oily moisture and when I tried to use it, it doesn't actually cut because the blades are dull and doesn't make a complete closure on a good cut. Luckily my trees are small enough the scissors did the job really well! Not bad for the price, but be aware of the shear quality as many other reviews here have already noted.

Haven't chance to use all the tools yet except the clippers and tweezers. The kit is well presented and storage bag that comes with it excellent. It's worth paying the money just for the book, which is superb.
