Use these
This stuff actually worked. I’ve been plagued by hard water ever since moving to my current home twelve years ago. My aquarium equipment has always gathered white buildup no matter how many softeners I tried. UNTIL this one! Absolutely zero buildup has stuck since I added one of these packs to my tank! I am so thrilled. Everyone in the tank seems happy and healthy and I’ve been using these for about a year now. Water clarity is crystal as always.

It does soften the water.
It leaked everywhere. I took my tank apart. Collected the little chunks. Put it all in a sock and put it in the filter again. It definitely softened the water. But then I found out the fish store used local tap water which is hard so the fish I bought needed hard water and the snail's shell suffered from the soft water.

It does the job and adjusts the chemistry perfectly.
This corrected my chemistry in my betta tank in two days. Fast results. Very pleased with this product. A must buy if u need to Correct chemistry in your tank. I have a 10 gallon betta tank and it worked wonders.

Worked for 5 gallon tank
I have well water that is very hard. I put this pillow in the filter and just a little over 12 hours there was a dramatic improvement. I'll leave it in just a little longer next time. I didn't give 5 stars for ease of use for a few reasons. It's too big for my extra small filter pump and I couldn't find a smaller one so I did expect that anyways. I removed the carbon filter temporarily, then I just stuffed the pillow into the filter, but not so much as to cause the flow to be blocked. It will stick out at the top because you can't stuff the whole pillow in and left the cover off. When I was done with the pillow I put my carbon filter back in. The only other thing is that the pillow contents are not distributed well in the pillow cover. It wants to collect on one side. Despite all this it is sufficient for my 5.5 gallon set up.

Not too sure what to think
I have used this same item years ago and always got results. The description says that one pillow is good for up to a 20 gal tank... OK, that seems about right, and, it left me a little concerned as I was going to be using these pillows in 2.5 and 5 gal tanks. I placed one of the pillows in each tank planning to monitor them closely. After the 3rd or 4th hourly test without seeing any change in the parameters at all I decided that they were going to work slowly regardless the size. I tested at 24 hours... No change... and finally at 48 hours (which was 10 hours ago) I tested the two tanks and neither tank showed any change at all. I don't know what to think... I mean I assumed that these came needing to be charged but the package says ready to use. So, as I said, I have used these quite often over the years... This is my first time using them since they are being sold dry rather than sold in a jar of charging fluid. I am going to charge these two pillows and try them again just in case my logic that says they should be charged before use is correct. I am not expecting the outcome to be any different than this time was, but I will post in comments should it be so.

Genuinely Impressed
My water is extremely hard. I put this into my 5G tank, in the hopes it would soften the water, and it did not disappoint! It advertises taking 48 hours to soften the water, but I retested my water after 8 hours, and the water was already almost completely softened. I wish the media bag was a little smaller so I can get it into my small 5G filter (but it is made for up to 20G), but I made it work. Absolutely worth what you pay!

Did nothing but raise the nitrate levels to off the charts!
Was in 2, 20 gallon tanks and a 55 for a couple days and did not lower the hardness at all, but actually increased the nitrates exponentially and now I can’t get them down. I guess it works for some people, but thankfully there are no fish in the tanks yet.
