Great Flashlight for Those Living with Smelly Beasts
This is a great little LED backlight flashlight. Years ago I bought a bigger one and I lost it. How I could lose such a thing, I don't know. Especially since it was heavy and bulky for a flashlight. This one is light weight, small, and has much more power, so I am actually glad I lost the old one. With my old one, it had to be very dark in the room to see anything. This one works even during the day. It can't be super bright in the room (you do have to shut the blinds and make it as dark as possible), but it does a way better job in low light than the other one I had. Normally I find myself cleaning during the day as opposed to at night so this is very very helpful. We have a cat that has chronic urinary tract issues. He has struvite crystals and is also highly agitated half the time (that's just his personality). He has attacks here and there where his crystals get really bad, despite our best efforts to treat this condition. At those times when he has flare ups, he starts spraying everywhere in the house. And I do mean everywhere. He stays in my bathroom for lengths of time when things get really bad, but I like to leave him out for a while each day so he doesn't go bonkers being alone all the time. Within 5 seconds of coming downstairs, his tail is in the air and he is spraying. When he is sick, he doesn't even spray objects-he just puts his tail up in the center of a room and goes to town shooting urine everywhere. He is fixed so thankfully it doesn't stink as bad as an intact cat's spray would smell, but it is still awfully unpleasant. Leading up to a flare up, he will spray all around the house. Blacklight flashlights are the only way for me to keep on top of where he has sprayed and where the stink is coming from. He sprays walls, furniture, doors…anything he can. I call him "The Great Communicator" because he lets us know quite effectively when he is not feeling well. And keeps letting us know, over and over and over again. I've done so much research to try to stop this from happening, have worked with my vet, gotten the special food, make my own wet food, add water to everything to no avail, give him prozac, and so on. He may need surgery, which is what my vet and I have been discussing recently. There are no guarantees even with that though so this may be a lifelong struggle to keep after this guy's gross peeing habits. It would be cruel to lock him up in a room by himself all the time. Now, if I could just find a product that works to take all traces of the urine away (out of carpeting), I would be a happy camper, and it would make dealing with a cat with these issues less stressful. My cat is only 5 years old and he has had these urinary tract issues from a young age. Unfortunately, I have tried almost all the products on the market that claim to remove pet stains and odors completely. The spots still show up under the blacklight despite using enzymatic cleaners, peroxide, vinegar, etc. It smells better, most of the time, when I clean with some products, but they are not doing the job completely. Any suggestions for a cleaner that has worked for you to remove all traces would be most welcome. At this point I am soaking the carpet over and over with Nature's Miracle and the stains are still glowing under the blacklight. I use my carpet cleaner filled with vinegar and peroxide or oxy clean constantly too to no avail. I know Jackson Galaxy swears by Fizzion, but I haven't seen evidence that it actually works for anything besides taking the stink away temporarily. Anyway, this flashlight is great and even though I can't seem to clean the carpet properly, at least I can treat the areas that need it by using this nifty gadget. I don't have to wonder where the smell is coming from. At least I know!

Works as advertised
Works very well detecting cat urine in my house.

Not sure what I'm seeing
I guess I imagined I would see distinct trails of urine...what I see are blue glowing specs of what I think are lint. I know we have plenty of mice at our cabin, but I can't say this light has shown the trails. At least not what I expected.

Tons of scary fun!!!
Ever wondering if your dog might have peed in the house but you're just not really sure? You can smell something, but you don't see anything, so you don't know where to clean. Here's the solution. Turn out the lights and turn on this flashlight. You might be pleasantly surprised that there really is nothing there, or you might be horrified at all the stains. You just can't tell until you put a black light on it. Our story: We knew the previous owner of our newly bought house had a dog or maybe a few because the one room with carpeting had a slight dog smell. We didn't mind. We had a dog of our own. But what we had not noticed during our walk-throughs were all the Glade plug-ins around the room. After moving in, we would occasionally find a spot in there where our dog had peed, which was unusual because he was house trained. But he was in a new environment and he was 14 years old--a few accidents were probably normal. After a few months of living there, the carpet room began smelling worse and worse as the plug-ins became less and less effective. I had to know what was going on in there so I got this flashlight. When we shined the black light flashlight on the carpet, I felt like I was in an episode of CSI at a gruesome murder scene. The whole carpet lit up with stains. It was horrifying!!! The previous owners had steam cleaned the carpet so all the stains were just spread out, permeating the whole carpet. The carpet was a blaring invitation for a dog to pee on it. We ended up replacing it. Our dog died not long after moving in. It was very sad, but we really missed having a dog, so we adopted a new dog. Then we adopted a second dog because this house has the space and a yard big enough for two. Rescue dogs are like a box of chocolates. The first dog pottied outside like a champ. The second dog wasn't potty-trained at all, and this flashlight has helped me greatly to find and clean any pee spots I couldn't see, but I could smell. This flashlight is a must-have for dog owners!!

Product arrived broken and customer service info provided for product is invalid
According to the insert provided with the furpect UV Stain Detective black light, the company has first class customer service that can be contacted by emailing [email protected]. Unfortunately, that email address is not valid and my email to them was Undeliverable. I learned of this light on an internet review where it was recommended. I was excited to receive my light today through Amazon; however, that quickly turned to disappointment when I found that the light does not work. That is, it will not turn on. I unscrewed the top to see if it actually had batteries as stated on the insert (it did) and found a spring in the top that was not attached to anything. I assume it is supposed to be attached to the lid and then press into the battery pack when the lid is tightened. Not sure as it was just loose in the lid. The light seems sturdy and well-made so I’m not sure how the spring would have broken inside the case. I did change out the batteries just to be sure that was not the problem. It still would not turn on. When changing the batteries, a white circle of plastic/paper came out as well. Thought it might be one of those inserts that keeps a battery from wearing down before purchase and needs to be removed before use; however, it was not mentioned on the insert as needing to be removed. I tried to turn the light on again, with and without the white circle. No luck. I cannot even test the product to see if it actually shows me the stains on the carpet so I'm not sure it even deserves one star I will be returning the light and probably purchasing a different product. Very disappointing.
