Practice Makes Perfect: English Conversation, Premium Second Edition 2nd Edition, Kindle Edition

I had read all about this before buying to help a person to improve their English. The conversations use a lot of slang expressions, rather outdated. The exercises are difficult, with no explanation or assistance...as if one can absorb grammar without learning it. I am not sure who this book will help but certainly not someone with limited English.

This is an amazing book and my advanced student gets a lot out of it. But if Kindle versions of these books are going to be made, they need to allow us to print the pages out so the students can do the activities while the teacher has the answers.

It is chock full of expressions which is good, but it is a bit overwhelming for my intermediate-low level student. We are just going at a very slow pace so as to cover all of the expressions. To give you an idea, we have already spent over an hour on the first dialogue but still aren’t done because there are at least 20 expressions and sayings/responses with in-depth explanations and examples.

My students like this book because of the contextual conversation and explanations of commonly used phrasal verbs, and idioms.

I used this with a Somali student who was learning English and who was a bit beyond all the basic children’s book level English. The book was good for a lot of English commonly used today and different phrases that are unique. I thought sometimes the book had too many topics like college frat parties and such that were not very appropriate for teaching from, which is why I gave 4 stars.

I have tutored, one on one, ESL to adults from several different countries. I start with conversational comic book style volumes and follow up with this (no pictures). At this point they are learning how to use idioms and that there is more than one way to express the same thought. I find it is very successful as a teaching aid. I have never had a student leave my room, after as little as 7 months, a totally illiterate, in his own language, as well as English, who didn't leave me for either a much better job, citizenship, or an ability to fend for themselves conversationally and in writing.

Teaching Convo English and this book is well received and loved by my Spanish students. highly recommended

I love this book and do does my ESL student. It is easy to understand and fun for her.

El libro empieza con conversaciones de temas, despues frases y vocabulario y ejericicios de gramática. No da suficientes herramientas prácticas para crear situaciones y que los alumnos se desenvuelvan en un ambiente práctico.
