Good Night Hawaii (Good Night Our World)

Clever idea AND superbly done!
How delighted I am to find that such a clever idea for a bedtime book has been done with such excellence. Distilling the essence of an entire state--from iconic locations to traditions to language--is difficult to say the least, but the author and illustrator manage to do it with flying colors. We just received our first two of these books yesterday, and I noticed that both follow a natural rhythm through the day as well as through the state. The pages begin with phrases such as "good morning, ____"; progress to "hello, ______" and "greetings, _____"; and continue on through "good evening" and "good night". By the end of the book, the reader enjoys a true sense of the state as well as a relaxed, good-night frame of mind. The illustrations are superb, including endless subtle details so characteristic of each state but without being overwhelming for young readers."Good Night, Hawaii" is outstanding! It mentions the following: the Pacfic, humpback whales, lei, surfing, mountains, waterfalls, sea turtles and coral reefs, dolphins, beaches and horseback riding. Then we are treated to the island fruits, flowers, conch shells, hulas, luaus, geckos and volcanos, and finally Waikiki Beach and the Observatory. The Hawaii illustrations includes rainbows, shave ice, pineapples, and hibiscus as supporting details for the text. ('Gecko' is misspelled, but the authors are fixing it.)This is an outstanding series for any child, as it celebrates different cities or regions and helps familiarize them with places beyond their own environments. It is an ideal way to discuss where extended family live or to prepare for a visit or move to another area.My daughter, a military baby, will be moving to her third home (and third continent) this fall, all before her third birthday. I bought the Hawaii and Virginia books as a way to celebrate and say goodbye to our current home as well as to prepare and familiarize her a bit with the one we're heading to. With all the chaos and change, these books are a beautiful, gentle way to bridge the transition and make the journey a little more approachable for a young one. Thanks, Mr. Gamble and Mr. Veno, for a great addition to a child's library. Keep 'em coming!!!

Missing two pages
The version I bought on Amazon and the version my sister had were slightly different, the one I bought on Amazon is missing two pages. I’m not sure why that is. The two pages are located at different parts so they don’t even touch, as a possible reason.Anyway, beware.

Adorable!
This is an adorable story for young children that portrays different aspects of the life in Hawaii well. Everything from whales to the volcanoes is included. There are simple sentences on each page which makes this great for young children ages 1-4 years old. If you want to introduce your young children to Hawaii, this is a great choice!

Thumbs down on execution.
My review is on this specific book not the series. The Hawaii book is cute, the illustration are very good adaptations, extremely colorful and eye catching but I expected a little more from this one. We have purchased 3 different books from this same company each featuring a different state. Each to represent some family we have that live in each. Virginia, Indiana, and Hawaii. The first book we purchased was Indiana which I fell in love with the concept : a short children bedtime story to teach them about different states. VA and IN had alot more relevant places and things to do in those states. I felt the hawaii book was very lacking and not as much research put behind it. A little disappointing to say the least. It is just a child book but there is more to Hawaii then just hula, luau and surf. If these activities were to be represented for Hawaii at least use specific locations to make it more relevant like what had been done with other books. The book comes off stereo typical with a few words that would be found in movies. Not a good publish in my opinion. That being said dont be discouraged to adventure on to other books of this series, the other 2 I purchased are far better than this lack luster book.

Good Night Hawaii Mahalo:)!
My kids are so excited for our move to Hawaii in a few months, therefore, this book was perfect for the occasion! I love especially, how they encompassed alot of hawaii animal species, the vegetation and activities you may enjoy on the island and big island. We are moving to the Big Island, so again the book was a great introduction for my 2 1/2 year old and 4 year old!!
