Clarkspoon avoid
There are great planers out there, but this isn't one of them.I have had much better luck with AFW for example.I've bought a couple different sizes from them, and the 5oz wouldn't set at all.For that order, not only did I order #4, and was sent #5, but in addition, I cannot get it to set dragging a ballyhoo rig. Nothing too draggy, a typical lure for a planer this size. Then a long time later, I forgot, and ordered from them again. This time they sent a #4 (which I have not tried to set yet) and noticed the area of the plane is quite small compared to my other planes.See photo of #4 Clarkspoon next to AFW.No comparison. The #4 clarkspoon is not a 4 oz weight. The #4 has an area far smaller than competitors. I know they are rated/labeled/characterized only by the weight in the front, however, how deep they go is a function of many factors, such as the line you are using, and the drag of the lure behind the plane, and, of course, the area of the plane.Smaller area means not as deep.Almost any competitor I've used is better in all aspects than clarkspoon, and I will never buy them again.I'm sticking with AFW from now on (I am not associated with them in any way whatsoever....)
