Great product with a lot to like
Its a great product. But for sources which have 2.1 channel sound only, can only be heard from the Front LCR and sub. The rear speakers are sent very little of the sound. But for sources with 5.1 channel encoding, it is wonderful. And it connects to the PC using only one USB port, and then the speakers connect to this.Oh and don't forget to check the Dolby Digital Live encoding option.

Great upgrade to my gaming/media PC
Works great in Windows 10, just need to download the latest drivers from Creative's site. My PC only has stereo sound through a 3.5mm speaker port and 5.1 through an optical toslink port. Not really a problem when it came to movies as I could use that optical out and pass-through Dolby Digital or DTS using Kodi. For games though, unless the game itself supports Dolby Digital or DTS (I'm not aware of any games) I was stuck with stereo sound. This sound card solves that issue thanks to the Dolby Digital Live feature or even just the 5.1 analog outputs. I'm still not 100% sure which option I want to go with as they both have their quirks and pros/cons.Using Dolby Digital Live+ Works perfectly with games, sends a nice 5.1 Dolby signal to my stereo+ Works well with Kodi. Set the output to 5.1 and don't use pass-through and everything will be converted to 5.1 Dolby+ Just 1 wire for games and movies- Since it's not using pass-through everything is Dolby, which means DTS will be converted to Dolby as wellUsing 5.1 Analog Out+ Still works great for games in my setup as my receiver has an analog 6ch input mode+ With Dolby Digital Live disabled, pass-through works in Kodi again for un-converted Dolby and DTS- So many wires. Front Left/Right, Back Left/Right/, Sub/Center, and Optical- Extra work for changing sources and telling Kodi to pass-through etc, not really a huge deal though, just not as non-tech friendlyOverall this device works greats and sounds fantastic. Even using headphones sounds better than when I used the integrated sound. As bonus, this thing comes with a remote that works in Kodi. It's a little bit limited (no stop button but you can stop by hitting enter and then selecting stop) but it works well and I was able to program the remote into my Logitech Harmony remote. The device is actually in there but it's finicky, so what I ended up doing was adding an original Xbox DVD Remote as the device and then I used the IR learning mode to program the buttons that this remote has. I also had go into the troubleshooting and set the number of signals sent from 3 to 2 as the it would often register an input twice. Then I just put the input delays down to 100ms and it's all set and working great. Not very plug n' play as far as remotes go but in the end I got it working well. If you only need the analog out or the optical out using pass-through there are much cheaper options, but to me this device seems like a perfect solution for anyone who games and watches movies on their PC and uses an older sound system that doesn't have HDMI or a 6ch input.

Astro A50 USERS LOOK HERE! Love it! Significant improvement over my on-board card.
This card did exactly what I hoped it would do and did it flawlessly.I am using a laptop. My main reason for upgrading to this card was so that I would have an Optical out port for use with my Astro A50 Wireless Headset. The card's optical output works perfectly, without any audio crackling or popping as reported by some other cards. The card is true plug-and-play, but you might want to download the drivers and the Creative software for it that lets you manage specific settings with the card. Some users consider this software as "Bloatware", but If you'd like to really take advantage of the more advanced features of this card, I suggest you install it. It hasn't caused any performance hits for me or delayed my boot time, so I really don't see the cause for complaint. It's a small little icon that gets placed in your taskbar where, upon clicking, gives you access to the Creative Control Panel and the Creative Entertainment Console that lets you adjust things on the card, such as your speaker set up, EQ settings, THX Tru Studio Pro features, EAX effects, and the ability to turn on and off the all important Dolby Digital Live feature. ESSENTIAL if you are planning on using the surround-sound feature on your headset or entertainment system. The card comes with a small remote that can be used to do various things like adjusting your volume, pausing/playing/stopping/rewinding the music/video in the active window, and a power button in the upper right corner. The power button DOES NOT turn off the card. Instead, it closes whatever is currently your active window, so if I had iTunes open and pushed the power button, it would close iTunes. I'd say that the remote has a maximum range of about 5 meters, and remote control requires direct line-of-sight to the card. You have to point it right at the card to get it to function. On a positive note, the remote comes with a battery! The card comes with a fairly long USB cable (about 4 to 5 feet long) and should be able to reach wherever you need to put it. It also contains a CD with the latest drivers and Creative software (at the time of this review).By default, this card will play audio 16bit at 48KHz instead of the 24bit at 96KHz that it is capable of. To change this, simply right click the the volume mixer (little speaker icon in the bottom right.), click playback devices, find your Creative card, right click it, click properties, go to the Advanced tab, then changed the playback under Default Rate to something of your choosing. Also, something for iTunes users: If you set your card to 24bit at 96KHz and the iTunes settings don't match, iTunes may completely refuse to play your music. I fixed this by going into iTunes and changing the playback settings to match. Do this by opening iTunes, clicking on Edit in the top-left, moving down to preferences, click the Playback tab, and in the bottom section you will see the playback settings that iTunes is currently using. Simply match them to what you set your card to and then restart iTunes and everything should be fine!A NOTE TO LAPTOP USERS: If you plan on using this as just a sound card replacement without any additional peripherals like speakers, you will be disappointed. With this card set as the active audio device, your on-board laptop speakers will not work because they are wired directly to your on-board card and without risky soldering, this can't be changed. Keep that in mind. You WILL need a set of external speakers or a headset of some sort to be able to utilize this card.As far as disabling the on-board card to avoid driver conflicts? I had originally disabled my on-board RealTek card to avoid driver conflict, but I'm using a headset and as such, don't have any speakers for external audio. I re-enabled the RealTek card so that I could switch the default playback device back and forth between my headset or laptop speakers depending on my need. I have not run into a single conflict yet, so I would say that it seems safe to keep it enabled. If you run into conflicts or Blue Screens of Death, try disabling your on-board card from the Windows Device Manager.Overall, I am very pleased with this card and feel that the price is easily justified! If you are interested in purchasing an external sound card, ESPECIALLY one that supports surround sound do yourself a favor and pick up this card for about $30 more than the competitors. You won't be disappointed!

DROPPING CONNECTION/NO SOUND FIX.
DROPPING CONNECTION/NO SOUND FIX. I will not say for sure that this will cure/fix your problem but here it is.i have been having sound dropping issues where the card itself would not work period. like for example, on youtube, if i have my playlist running, it will play through like 2 videos and the videos will stop and found out that it was the sound card. the only remedy for this is to unplug/plug in the usb of the sound card and plug it back in again. but this got tiring and i started to use my on board sound card. One day, i said hey it's been like a year since i last checked for any driver updates, and i never saw any drivers for windows 10 for this card since it being a bit old. but voila! there it is...you can actually search for SBX SB1095 drivers on google and you will see newer drivers. i actually uninstalled all the drivers installed on my computer for this sound card and then rebooted, installed the new drivers and now EVERYTHING on the sound card works, remote work, the volume button on the card works, along with a ui now that comes up when you change volume. also the crystalizer works too.... the best part, the sound card never dropped after i installed this update about 2 weeks ago. i haven't rebooted the computer once so i know it's pretty solid. usually i would get drops like 10 times within the course of an hour trying to go through my music playlist on youtube.so hope this helps everyone, or a few. maybe my problem was an isolated one but the sound it self being pretty decent i didn't want to throw the card away. this worked and i hope whoever else that has this issue which i did see a lot of reviews saying the same thing as me, it's working great for me.my card is using the pdif output as i like to let me speakers do the decoding and the 5.1 portion of it.let me know if you have any issues, questions or comments. i will try to help.... i love this card now...
