A Dog's Purpose Boxed Set

Cameron's books follow a single dog, starting when its first owner is seven or so, through a series of reincarnations to find certain owners, the last one being to rejoin the first owner's granddaughter well over one hundred fifty years later when she is in her seventies. The actual time period is never specified. The lapses between the meetings may be ten years, or they may be fifty years. The owners and their family members die, the dogs die. Through it all the dog, in its various incarnations of both sexes and various breeds, believes that its job is to look after primarily two owners, Ethan and his granddaughter, CJ. As events unfold, the dog's understanding of its true purpose through all these lives changes and shifts. The several death scenes in the novels are handled in a rather straightforward, non melodramatic manner, so that the reader is saddened, but not manipulated into crying and sobbing, because the results are a growing understanding by the dog of why it is here and why it keeps returning. The finale is a delight, although a bit bittersweet. Well worth the time.The book deals with a number of topics, such as uncaring parents, bullying, cancer, eating diorders, cancer, and the choice to end medical treatment because the character believes in the Death with Dignity movement. However, while sad, the maudlin is strictly avoided.

Wonderful books! I absolutely loved these books and I have recommended them to many friends and family members. They are stories I'll never forget! They made me laugh out loud and they even made me cry a few times too. Very touching stories and I loved the way they were written. I don't think any dog lover would be disappointed in these books. I loved that the books were written from a dog's perspective. A unique read and two books you truly won't want to put down!

To tell the truth I had this review written in my head way before I finished the books. These are FANTASTIC books. A new classic! My favorite has always been Black Beauty, by Anna Sewell. But I also read James Harriot, Jack London, and every animal book I could get my hands on. This is right up there as a must read for those who love animals and those type of books. I laughed, cried, and hugged my dogs all the way through. When I arrive in my afterlife, my animals will be there waiting for me too.

Awesome set of books - totally different way of thinking about how dogs might think and definitely an alternate perspective on what happens when (if?) they leave us. Rollercoaster ride of ups and downs - your heart sinks at a loss but is then lifted up as you read on! Must read for any true dog lover - even if you don't end up believing the general premise - there is so much more to take away from this set of books. Highly recommended! (Also - great transition from one book to another - ever wish a book wouldn't end? This set is very cohesive and carries the story on seamlessly. Only problem is - I didn't want the second book to end either!)

I read these books on my iPad and loved them so much that I purchased this boxed set as a gift for my brother. Anyone who has ever owned a good dog will absolutely love these books. Well written, funny and tender, it was an easy read and hard to put down. Makes one want to hug their pooch and let them know that they are a "good dog". Be ready for the tears! Plus a lot of laughs. It's also a great gift for a dog lover!

So far I've only read the first book. Which was A dog's purpose. I really enjoyed the story. It's interesting to read about the different lives the dog lives. It makes you wonder if what the author writes about really does happen.

I fell in love with the movie preview and knew that I needed to read the book. Imagine my happiness when I learned that there was two books instead of just one! While the books may be a bit juvenile for my typical literary selection, they are endearing and relatable. The author kept chapters short (perfect for breaking the read up over several nights) and kept the story line stable even while varying the context and tone of the message. I found both of these books to be a page turner!

Bruce Cameron writes so well. He may have you shedding a tear at the end of a chapter, but turn the page to the next chapter and you will likely be laughing in a few moments. Wonderful stories by a master story-teller!

Dont go out and buy just the one book, invest and buy this combo pack because its well worth your money! Plus, its only a few bucks more compared to other leading competitors. Boxed set is great. Condition was mint.

I loved this box set so much! I always hesitate to read dog stories because I know they can end sadly but I'm happy I decided to buy these. I would definitely recommend them to any dog lover out there.
