does food get inside the dividers that seems to be a double wall?

I’m not quite sure what you mean. There are no double walls so there’s no way for food to get “inside the dividers.” They aren’t leak proof so liquids can go under the dividers.

I'd like to have two different looking boxes without having to purchase something with plastic. Any ideas?

I have the metal lid. Will the plastic cover make it any easier for my preschooler to open?

I would think so. I have the metal-only style, and it isn’t the easiest thing to open. The plastic lids look to have places that stick out that you can grip better. Just my opinion. I would choose the plastic lid style if I had a child. Hope this helps!

Is this leakproof? I want to use it for mango and pears and they usually leak.

No, we love these lunchboxes for the size and affordability, but unfortunately they do not seem to be leakproof, either with the box (there are little spaces under the compartment separators, so the juices from each compartment run together) or outside the box (the juices leak into the insulated lunch carrier we put the box in).
