I bought this to transfer my VHS tapes to digital. I was easily able to save everything in DV format and bring them into Final Cut for editing.The quality of the video and audio is descent. You can select the aspect ratio (Full or WS), the pixel ratio (up to 720 x 576), the audio frequency (up to 384 kpbs & 48.0 kHz), and control of the Live TV buffer size.The only drawback... if you want to use this in place of a DVR, please note that the software does not recognize the decoder on your Satelite dish receiver. (It works fine if you plug your cable directly into your TV.)If you do own a Satelite dish, and you want to record live TV, you can manually set the TVMax to record at a specific time. You just can't download the local TV programming schedule (like you can with cable) and have it automatically record a specific show.

It's my second Elgato product it works just as it's supposed to and i'm very happy with it....my only complaint is that it didn't come with the audio/video cable like it said it would and I had to buy seperately....so would have five star but......

I love this thing, the only problem I can see is that when I use it to record VHS tapes to my computer the video sometimes jumps too much. I guess my iMac G5 can't handle it. When capturing video from the TV there's generally not such issue. I'd buy another one, but only after checking our their newer smaller products.

Great product, easy set up, quality of recording excellent. The EyeTV2 software makes scheduling the recordings very easy. Also can record one channel while watching another.

I've been waiting to backup my VHS to DVD for many, many years. The TVMax does this with great ease. The software is very user friendly and hooking up the interface just took a few minutes. This unit is a real winner!
