Eminem: The Way I Am

Published in 2009, this is a truly superb read with a wealth of information and insight into Eminem - both personally and as a musician. As a huge Eminem fan since the start and having every album, I know people would say this review is bias, but this is a genuine page-turner. Em speaks about his song writing process and provides little insights into how some songs came into being, whilst the book provides multiple lyric sheets in A4 glossy color. Of course Eminem has written another book 'Angry Blonde' which is more about lyrics and song backgrounds from his first two albums. The Way I Am has a lot more material - photos and information than Angry Blonde does. I also think the book helps you to realize just how incredible Marshall's journey truly was, coming from the childhood he speaks about in this book to becoming a multi-millionaire and hugely successful rapper, who is almost certainly in the top 10 rappers of all time. From reading this book it is clear that it wasn't only talent that got him there nor was it the luck of meeting Dr. Dre but it clearly took a lot of hard work and dedication to reach the pinnacle he sits at today. This book is truly worth the price tag - whether paperback or hardback. If you're an Eminem stan then you'll adore this book. I would fully recommend you pick this up.

As a lifelong devoted Stan, this book is everything and more. Em's writing is personal, honest and humorous. A little sad he didn't talk more about meeting Dre for the first time, but still I will treasure this book. I hope and pray that one day he'll write a follow up.

perfect book. really insightful

I bought this book out of curiosity as I am a big fan of eminem and I enjoy listening to him music because I feel like I can relate to him and his songs, I suggest any eminem fan should have this book and read it, it is the best book I've ever read and I would highly recomend it, it has a lot of good pictures so you don't get bored and its brightly coloured and the front cover is amazing, its got official eminem lyrics sheets and bits from his songs, everyone should buy this book even if your not a huge fan of eminem it is the best

Thoroughly enjoyed

I bought this as a present for my son. He is delighted with it. My only gripe was the length of time it took to arrive, I thought it was never coming.

This book is so interesting whether you're a die hard Eminem fan or just like his songs. Bought for my daughter for Christmas so I have yet to get her opinion yet but I have loved Eminem since he started out when he was a teenager so am just as excited to read it. I have already read bits of the book, it has lyrics, loads of pictures, behind the scenes on 8 mile, stories about his friends and pictures of his lyrics scribbled down on bits of note paper. This is a really good insight into his life, a really good hardcover book and can't wait for my daughter to read it.

I have a son who’s worshipped Eminem since he was 8 years old (now 19) and who doesn’t read books. He read this one! Written by the man himself in his own words it’s like one long very honest interview spread over pages with great pictures. Definitely recommend for any die hard Eminem fan

Bin kein sonderlicher Eminem Fan, kaufte das Buch für meine Tochter. Dennoch lag es immer wieder rum und riskierte einen Blick. Zum staunen meiner Tochter hatte es ihr 45 jähriger Vater immer wieder in der Hand und las viele interessante Geschichten über Entstehung und Werdegang. Toll illustriert, ohne Langweilige Texte und hochwertig verarbeitet.

Le livre retrace de son enfance avec proof, puis de ses rap battles lorsqu'il vivait encore avec sa mère dans une caravane jusqu'à sa rencontre avec Dr dre qui va le populariser. Vous allez découvrir l'homme aux 2 disques de diamant et si controversé sous un œil un peu plus personnel à travers ce livre, je le recommande à tous les fans ou ceux qui ont besoin de croire en leurs rêves, parce que tout est possible ,même si l'on part de rien.

Great read. This book is easy to read and offers a lot interesting things you probably never new about Eminem. If you're a big Eminem fan you'll probably see a lot of the same type of biographical information repeated over and over. This book gives a new perspective (since its coming from him) and gives you a lot of new information. It has a lot of pictures that I haven't seen before and the font is pretty big which makes it a quick read. It's almost like reading a big magazine. Another cool part is that in the back there is a lot of scanned pictures of actual notebooks and scrap paper that Eminem wrote on to write his songs. The captions tell you which songs were created on these peices of scrap paper. Pretty cool.

I wanted to learn more about Eminem. I wouldn't consider myself a fan, but I was interested to learn more. This is a really well laid-out book with tons of photos, memorabilia and other interesting images. It's a very easy read that provides a lot of insight into the life and history of Marshall Mathers and the evolution of Eminem. I plan to listen to his music more now to round out my knowledge of him.
