does it matter which slot tbe batteries are in? my old chsrger had to use the middle slots if only charging 2 for instance

Yes, it does matter! A single pair of batteries MUST be placed in slots 1 and 2, OR in slots 3 and 4. A pair of batteries placed in slots 2 and 3 will NOT receive any charging current. None at all. They'll just sit there!

YES. I have had these plugged in for 16 hours, never turned green, I have tried charging 2 and 4, I own both aa and aaa, I am mad about this, and with these batteries, the light will not turn green, but I thought maybe the light has an issue maybe the batteries are charged but the light just wont change, nope, I used them for a couple of days on my oculus quest 2 with the controllers, batteries are low in both of them, so obviously something is up witn energizer.

What does the pulsing red light 'bad battery" mean? Just a discharged or truly bad battery that won't accept / hold a charge?

A pulsating red light indicates the battery can no longer be charged. After a while, even rechargeable batteries will expire and no longer recharge.

Make sure the batteries fully click in. I discovered AAA batteries need pushed in a second "click" past where it first stops. When I finally figured that out, my batteries charged in the time specified in the PDF manual in the description and the indicator light lit up accordingly.
