Completely local, no account needed, great functionality
Every time I buy a Shelly product, I'm reminded why I love them so much. I have Shelly relays that control my boiler, my gate motor, you name it. You can set them up and use them entirely locally, no app or account needed, and this plug is no different. When you plug this socket in, it broadcasts its own wifi. You connect to it, navigate to the device configuration IP in your browser, and from there connect it to your own wifi. Then you disconnect from the Shelly wifi and at that point you can manage the device directly over your own network. Pro tip: If you're using an android device, turn off cellular during set up and it won't kick you off the device wifi because it has "no connection". Integrates with Home Assistant perfectly, including power monitoring. Has similar great features to Shelly relays (timed on / off, etc). The light ring feature is a nice touch, and I love that it's configurable and can change colour depending on load (and even that supports a configurable range!). My only criticism is that the design isn't super clean. Personally, I'd prefer a square-ish device with a sleeker look that is slightly more space efficient. But, it's not ugly. And honestly, the functionality and ease of integration, with fully local control, more than makes up for it. I'd take that compromise any day. Shelly, this is a great product. Rock solid. Please keep doing what you're doing.

A quality, reliable item - stand alone, with available app or Home Assistant
I find the range and quality of Shelly products just superb and I have quite a collection now around the house. The Plus Plug is great, seems super reliable (I have had them on high-current items such as the tumble dryer and washing machine for almost 2 years now) and they have some neat functionality that other smart plugs don't have, such as being able to set the power-on status (i.e. what happens after a power cut), setting the colour of the status ring depending on what it's doing (including being able to turn it off completely) and so on. The Shelly range - including the Smart Plus - also integrates beautifully with Home Assistant. A tad more expensive than others perhaps, but It Just Works!

Does everything it says and well. Value isn't all there though.

Excellent, works, you have choice, a. use clean trusted ip for security or easy app.
Excellent product. I use Home automation since before 2010. This product does not force you to use a stealing app. You can configure with clean IP and Wifi as you choose. Well done.

WiFI Plug, Power Monitor, WiFi Range Extender
Incredible WiFi plug, monitors power usage , WiFi network extender , Bluetooth with an amazing App. The colour turns from green to red as power consumption increases , very neat.

Worth the premium price
This is one of the more expensive smart plugs out there, but IMO is worth the premium as you're not forced into a 3rd party app - Shelly do however have one available if you're not integrating with e.g. homeassistant Does add a bit of bulk around the plug socket so may not fit in power strips with other larger sized plugs

Insert remote-ly amusing title heree
Works great, easy to connect to the WiFi using the Shelley app. No requirement for a hub or any other connection accessory as it connects direct to the WiFi and you use the app to control it. It also got picked up immediately in 'Home Assistant' when the Shelly HACS addition was installed. I'm using it to check if the washing machine is running or not. Home assistant send a notification when a load is done (blueprint is already built so you can just import it) so I don't forget and have to re-do the washing because it's been left in the washer too long and got that 'funk' smell on the clothes (if you know, you know). Has never not worked, also sends power draw/usage/history to home assistant and the app as well. Max of 3000W is plenty for most applicances (the exception would be an electric oven/hob but if you need to remotely control these then you've got bigger issues).

Extremely versatile
This is an incredibly versatile device. If like me, you like to control smart devices from an arduino or esp32 this is perfect. The socket has it's own local web server that allows easy congfiguration of some quite advanced features either via a web browser or through API calls. There is therefore no requirement to connect this to the cloud via an app ( although you can ) and everything can be easily controlled via your local network. Other nice features include the ability to send webhooks when the button is pressed and automatic state flipping after a configurable time delay. Now that I know just how versatile Shelly devices are I'm going to buy a few more, there seems to be quite a variety of different types.
