Firmware updates crash these systems. QNAP documentation on recovery is very poorly done. I've spent hours trying to recover. I had to use the QNAP forums to solve my issues as MANY others have had the same issues with firmware updates crashing their systems. After my recovery of using a 3rd party bootable ISO image (create a bootable usb drive) to copy over a boot able image form 2015. Which gives you a host name of "test" and yeah, that didn't help matters at all. I then had to manually update to a stable firmware using a hard to find document on how you have to use a usb drive with a copy of a stable firmware. QNAP has another utility called Qfinder pro that was supposed to update the firmware for me but that totally failed! Their tech support was useless for recovery purposes. Glad to have their Forums. I'm switching over to Synology.

I wanted a ZFS based NAS and decided on the TS-473A, which I received this yesterday. First impression: Well built, PSU is integrated unlile with the cheaper QNAPs. Second impression: The software is deeply disappointing. Took me three hours to first install QuTS Hero (yes, it ships with QTS) and figure out a number of problems along the way, such as no storage shown in the App Center. Now that that is fixed I am stuck with required apps not updating due to 'incompatible version'. And even that I only found up from the mobile app, because on the desktop the update just fails without any error message. I am now waiting for helpdesk to have a look. The whole point of QNAP is to have a device that does not take time to troubleshoot. Earlier versions fulfilled this promise, this specific one does not. Fun tidbit: The included screenshot shows that even the box itself does not know which firmware version it is.
