I needed something to discourage rats getting at the chicken feed! I was sceptical that my chickens would be intelligent enough to work out how to access the feed, especially as I was stepping on the panel FOR them! But I have to say, it's been terrific. The chickens have managed to learn to access the feed quite quickly - well, one of them took her time. It does seem a bit delicate - children pulling the lid while stepping on the arm didn't do any damage, but it only has to work with the weight of a chicken and prevent rats. All in all, very happy with the product and I hope it will last through the winter weather.

Bought as a chicken feeder. After a few weeks the treadle mechanism stopped working. So I have to open manually and prop open to allow chickens to feed them manually close at the end of the day.

Good points and bad points depending on your hens I think.My hens don’t like this as the lid clatters down when they step off the step and frightens them. The step is also quite high. There is also a danger of some hens side feeding and the lid coming down on their necks so you have to have plants or fencing either side if your hens do this. As others have said the paint does comes off when putting it together/tightening bolts also which I didn’t mind. I Liked the fact that tools were provided. It’s very well-made and for hens less suspicious and jumpy than mine it’s a good investment. I really Wanted this to work for my hens as it’s been an expense. (Prompt delivery- but packaging is non-recyclable polystyrene.)I’m going to try a lowering shelf feeder next rather than a falling lid feeder next time. Good luck to the company- good product for many hens, just not mine.

Whilst I don't think my chickens will be complaining directly the finish on this product was a bit 'slap dash' with massive runs in the paint. It would also been advantageous to prop the lid open in varying degrees so as to 'train' the chickens in using the product. I just used a block of wood in the tray and reduced the height of the wood. After about 2/3 weeks my chickens are still a bit wary of the lid opening to get the food. I haven't noticed many rodents about up to date.

Really disappointed with this item. Mechanism doesnt work. Chickens cant fathom it. Lid falls down. Had to wedge with bricks. Expensive for what it is. Will end up removing pedal and closeing lid with bricks. Very annoyed...waste of money

Excellent gear made daily chores so much easier and saved me a fourtune in feed costs and pest control.

A pity that there was polystyrene packaging though. This is non-recyclable and a menace to the environment. Newspaper or shredded cardboard would be so much better.

Easy to assemble, comes with its own tools too.Paint cracked off when I tightened the little nuts which was a shameTime will tell if the girls like it, but at least there is room for 3 or 4 to stand side by side and tuck in.Arrived just as promised.
