A warm, no-nonsense approach to traditional child rearing in a modern world
As the mother of four daughters, I found this book incredibly helpful. True, it is American in its approach and references, that's to be expected given the authorship, but girls the world over need much the same from their parents, and given that the western hemisphere shares so many of its cultural values, it follows that parents are feeling similar influences exerted on their families whichever side of the pond they live. If you are looking for a warm approach to traditional values that's no-nonsense, well researched and easy-to-read, this is the one for you.

Helpful book!
This was bought as a present for my daughter and her husband as they have a young daughter. I can't really comment on the content as I haven't read it myself but have always found James Dobsons' books, on various subjects, very good and helpful.

I have waited 9 years for this book to come out having read Bringing up Boys 9 years ago! Invaluable , even though my daughters are now 14 and 10 years of age . It is full of Godly wisdom, practical advice, and incorporates a lot of up to date research on modern teenagers! Highly recommended- Your daughters are worth it!

What a Brilliant Buy!
This is a fantastic book that has taught me so much about my daughters and about myself! It is extremely informative and is a must-buy for anyone wanting to know more about how their girls think and why. I would particularly recommend it to any fathers willing to read a big, thick book about girls. It will be worth it!

Bringing up girls
It made a huge impression on me. How I treat my girls and the after effects of how I was treated.

This is the worst observation of parenting girls
This is the worst observation of parenting girls. It is from a Christian perspective and guilt-trips mothers. This is the only book I have ever thrown away. An old fashioned male perspective on raising girls. No thanks.

enlightening
People I know are often afraid of the idea of having girls because of the emotional upheaval those teen years bring. I have to say that I feel more confident going forward after reading both the scientific reasoning for the emotions us girls face and the encouragement about raising strong daughters for the Lord. Dr Dobson is old-school or "old fashioned" in his thinking, but I find that refreshing. I have been able to take what I've read and determine what I believe is still applicable today and what is, perhaps, more of a personal preference of his. After all, Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever and I strongly believe that though we have more knowledge on parenting as years go by and research is done, we can not forget that the basics are still first and foremost the best from the Bible and God's guidance over our peers or even our child "specialists".

Yay! I'm the First Review
Upon awaiting anxiously for a couple of years for this much anticipated book, I'd have to give it a very high rating! Similar to Dobson's book, Bringing Up Boys, this book offers outstanding advice based on the current culture in raising up daughters.Whoever said that boys and girls were the same was wrong. Scientifically, Dobson has shown the difference of the two genders. They are wired so differently. In a culture where we are self-obsessed, girls are growing up at a young age feeling "fat" and insecure. Girls as young as nine are dieting. Sixty percent of girls at age 15 will have eating disorders. So what's a parent to do?Thankfully, we have the guidance of people like Dobson who has thoroughly analyzed the female gender and has given us great perspective on what to do. There has been insurmountable evidence that points to the importance of fathers in a daughter's life. There are chapters devoted to both mothers and fathers in this book.I like the examples from families like the Wilsons who started the Father-Daugther Purity Ball. Included in the book is an interview from them and how they raised their seven children. Knowing one of them personally, I can tell you that their emphasis on purity in their daughter's lives has truly made a difference. There is a chapter on bullies and buddies. From the news, we hear of more incidents where girls have been harmed or have even committed suicide because of bullies. As I think back on my youth, I was also harmed by bullies who made for a difficult teenage experience. Dobson stresses the importance of parents talking with their teenagers about these issues. What I also enjoyed was the questions and answers sections in this book. Real parents sent in their questions with common themes and Dobson answers them with great advice. My advice to all parents of girls is to pick up a copy of this book! It would probably be better to own it then check it out at the library. That way you can refer to it from time to time! I am so happy that I waited for this book and could receive it so quickly! It'll be worth your money spent! Thank you, Dobson, for another great book!
