Makita DUX60Z Brushless Split Shaft Motor Power Head.Bought one of these to try instead of my usual Stihl petrol brushcutter and I was pleasantly surprised to find the makita 2x 18V is every bit as good as the petrol engined equivalent.The Makita has 3 Power settings that you pre-select and then the throttle works only up until that max. power sett so these 3 settings effectively cap the speed and power level in order to prolong battery life but obviously with a correspondingly lower RPM limit at each setting.With the Makita set to the Medium power setting, and fitted with a 9 inch metal brushcutter blade, I can strim tall grass and dense weeds (cow parsley, Docks, Nettles etc) for at least 45 minutes before the 2x 18V 5Ah batteries are flat.If I'm more careful with the throttle control then I can get 60 minutes or so from a charge.The only minor downside is you then have to wait about 70 minutes for the dual charger to re-charge the batteries to 100% - it gets to 80% charge much faster but I forget excatly how long that takes. It's not the end of the world so have a cup of tea whilst the batteries recharge.The fact the shaft splits in two also means it is much easier to transport if you need to use it away from home as it fits easily in the boot of the car.I highly recommend the Makita DUX60Z, so much so that I bought a second one for my wife to use.

Having had some Makita power drills (and been impressed) for some time I decided to buy this 'driving unit' and added a strimmer. After using the strimmer (and been incredibly impressed) I have bought another 3 attachments. The batteries last at least 30-40 minutes on pretty heavy use. As an aside I purchased two very cheap substitute non-Makita batteries and they were useless lasting only about 10-15 minutes. Subsequently I purchased a further 2 Makita batteries and remain very impressed with the equipment and attachments.

Powerful, can keep ontop of brush safer than being up a ladder

I’ve just used this for the first time with a long reach hedge cutting attachment it’s powerful enough to do the job and manage to complete the task with out the need for recharging. It’s quite heavy but the supplied shoulder strap makes light work of it all in all really pleased

Right, my review may not be relevant to the target audience of this machine.Before I break it down I will say that it is ideal for most small houshold garden maintennance. Especially trimming grass in smaller spaces and along borders, around flower beds. I did cut a 7*10 meter section and it is ok if you do not let it grow too high. I have two professional heavy Stihl Brushcutters FS450 which I use with shredding knives to clear brumbles and rushes around my 32 acre equestrian small holding in Ireland. This Makita cannot replace that. The heavy shredder knifes cause the motor to shut off continously. But with a strimmer line around our house, Orchard path etc. of works very well. I have 4 batteries of 5.0ah. One set last me 20 minutes on power setting 2. For general touch up maintenance I grap the Makita. For a day brushcutting the paddocks it will be the Stihl with a shredder knife or 3 point knife and 5 litres of 2 stroke mixed petrol.

Superb quality as usual!

When using this with the pole saw or brush cutter attachments, it cuts out after 30 seconds or so. The LEDs show that the machine is overheating or has gone into overload (whatever that means.The pole saw was being used to cut 8-10cm branches and the brush cutter was cutting long grass.The machine works OK with the hedge cutter attchment.After spending several hundred pounds on the machine and its various attachments, I'm extremely dissapointed.Although I understand that I could return the machine itself, all the attachments, batteries & charger were purchased from a number of different sources, and those I wouldn't be able to return (as the attachments etc are OK in trhemselves).Edit:Sent product to Makita for inspection. They replaced the controller (whatyever that is) rather than sending me a new unit.The machine no longer goes into overload, but it still shuts down due to overheating after a fre minutes of use.Absolutely disgusted.

This machine is just about as powerful as a gasoline one. It can handle seriously overgrown land. Battery life is good on low power setting, maybe an hour, but drops dramatically on higher settings, down to maybe 15 or 20 minutes. You'll probably need a spare set of batteries and a quick charger if you plan to tackle heavier jobs.Makita stuff is always good. Stay with them and you'll get years of good service from products well-made from good materials

tres surpris de cette machine elle me fait presque le travail de ma thermique sans bruit et beaucoup plus légère a manier je vais certainement acheter d'autres outils a mettre dessus je possede beaucoup de materiel makita et jamais deçu

Attrezzo super professionale, con un livello di qualità costruttiva al top. Motore ultra potente e silenziosissimo, nessuna vibrazione. Tre velocità ed in più la possibilità di farlo girare al contrario. Con 2 batterie da 5,5 ah si fanno parecchie ore di lavoro. STRAORDINARIO !!! Niente più benzina, olio, fumo, rumore e vibrazioni e soprattutto avendo la coppia massima istantanea, tantissima potenza da subito. CONSIGLIATISSIMO !!!!!
