So far, so good!
I purchased 2 ootheca and separated them into 2 vented containers. Very gently, I hot glued the stems onto slightly larger sticks so they can hang. Everything was packaged well and arrived when expected. The only thing I might suggest is to include instructions on the direction they should be suspended. I may be wrong about this. Ignore me if so. I usually keep 1 or 2 nymphs and release the others in the garden after they grow a bit. Make sure you have fruit flys on hand to feed them. I will check back after they hatch.

Good product
Keep an eye on these! I received the package on a Monday, followed the instructions to soak in warm water for 10 minutes. Tuesday morning they were hatching! I’m not sure how many I got as I put them out on my fruit trees.

Very fun science kit
This was a perfect kit - both egg cases hatched (at different times) & many baby mantises were climbing about, waiting to be freed. This is not a very “exciting” science project until the day of hatching, but that one day makes it perfectly grand!

Bad eggs
We got a bad batch. We got them promptly and in a week we started see drill looking holes in the eggs. This was unusual as we Have been getting mantis eggs for almost a decade and we have never seen this. In the next day or so we saw fuzzy little wormlike bugs in the egg and have come to the conclusion that we have parasitic wasps in our eggs. Our first egg was completely empty and filled with these bugs. It’s a shame as we really look forward to setting them free in the garden with our kids.

Great deal
Got these mantis on March 7, 2025, and they just hatched tonight while I was at work April 1, 2025. They are so cute and awesome. I kept my home at 70-75 degrees and sprayed a couple spurts from a water bottle every 2 days or so when I saw the moisture in the container had dried up. Just ordered fruit flies to feed them and I will release most tomorrow so that I can keep a few for observation as they grow. My 7 year old is so excited. Thank you.

Poor Packaging (on somebody’s part)
This is the message I sent directly to the company, USMANTIS:Dear USMANTIS,I purchased two of your Chinese mantis oothecas on April 29th, 2025, and they arrived today. While I understand I ordered late in the season, which could explain them hatching during shipping, I encountered a few problems with the packaging that I’d like to bring to your attention.First, one of the oothecas had already hatched, which I half-expected, but unfortunately, the mantids were confined in a small paper bag that kept them from moving around properly. As a result, several of them did not survive. Secondly, the packaging itself was inadequate. The box wasn’t labeled as “Live Insects,” and there was very little packing material surrounding the cup to keep it secure. The top of the cup had come off, and some mantids had crawled out into the box.Additionally, the box was delivered to the mailbox, which is concerning, especially considering the high temperatures it likely reached inside. This left the oothecas exposed for a few hours, which could have contributed to some of the issues.I understand that mistakes can happen, but I would appreciate it if you could ensure better labeling and packaging in the future, especially for live insects. While I’m not dissatisfied with the insects themselves (as I still have one egg that has yet to hatch), I was disappointed by the delivery experience.Thank you for your attention to this matter, and for running a company that shares such marvelous creatures with the world! God bless.
