THE First Days of School: How to Be an Effective Teacher, 5th Edition (Book & DVD)

The "First Days of School" is a must read for EVERY teacher, whether first year of 20th year in the classroom. I would also recommend for every school administrator. Harry Wong came to our school district several years ago and his address literally transformed the way teachers thought about their students, themselves, and their classrooms. Attendance and test scores both went up! His concepts create a nurturing, structured and successful learning environment for students K-12.

Like no other, Super!!

Started teaching a few years ago with no background in education whatsoever. Had a copy given to me and then I found it so helpful I bought my own!

Beginner teachers as well as veteran teachers can learn something from this book. I found the advice on class seating/arrangements most helpful and interesting. There are some points that give too simplified of an explanation without nuance. For example, the short talk on not giving zeroes oversimplified research on this practice, and now administrators use the advice from this book to have a soft policy on student achievement with low expectations. Despite these problems, the book provides a good overview to be considered a recommended book.

Has tons of useful information.

This book is so great if you're a new teacher or a seasoned one. The advice is spot on and the techniques have not failed me yet. I recommend it to everyone who teaches or leads a team. The book was delivered in perfect condition and was packaged sufficiently.

A fantastic guidebook for any first-year teacher. Pick and choose what you want to gain out of this book. It is absolutely great at laying out foundations such as classroom management. Highly recommended.

The book arrived, but I cannot seem to play the DVD. I would have liked to do this. I wonder if it is a zone issue. So sad.

The book is great but Amazon's packaging has deteriorated badly - this is the fifth book from Amazon I have received damaged.
