I have had very good success in 4 trips with 20 striper (my secret ...
I am pulling a 1/4 oz white buck tail with a 4" mister twister and 20ft of fluorocarbon running beside the James River bridge in Va.. I stay approx. 15 ft off the pylon's and make the buck tail slap the pylon. I have had very good success in 4 trips with 20 striper (my secret to success). I have talked with others who may have caught 1 fish, but most have said they got skunked. P.S. 8 to 15 ft of water. Go to a #2 planer for water 20 ft or better. You do not want to have too much line out running bridge pylons. GOOD LUCK!!!

BEST PRICES for Sea Striker #1 Planers
Amazon has the best prices for these small planers. They are perfect for trolling small spoons for Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish. I catch Spanish and Blues and use them for big Shark baits for my charters. I just wish the larger planers were the same price as I loose them easily to sharks eating the whole dang planer!!!!!!

fish deep without a downrigger!
This planer does exactly what it says it will and is MUCH cheaper than buying a true downrigger. I use this on a dedicated rod, then using a rubber band and clip, I slide my lure/bait down to the planer. This method allows for a fish to strike and break the rubber band free, yet the planer will not be in line with the lure. (meaning you're just fighting the fish and not the weight of the planer too) When rebaiting, simply slide another clip on and let it slide down to the planer, no need to reel it in each time.
