Introduction to Buddhism: An Explanation of the Buddhist Way of Life

A great book with an easy to understand summary of what Buddhism is.
This book is complied of small sections of all the main concepts that governs the life and believes a true Buddhist. It is practical and easy to understand (although not to comprehend, as you would have to be a Buddha itself if you did.) You can't even start grasping Buddhism or call yourself a Buddhist without being clear on the content of this book. It is also a nice production, printed on thick white paper with beautiful illustration on the cover. It gave me inspiration to change the way I look at my life entirely.

Best introduction on Buddhism ever, perhaps ?
This book would surprise everyone who's heard about Buddha and the origins of today's teachings on Buddhism or would like to know more about the life of Buddha and his teachings . Written with so much wisdom and knowledge by the author ( whom had studied since childhood in Tibet , now living in the west ) It's a wonderfully practical book , explaining in detail the basic teachings of Buddha up to the ultimate teachings on the true nature of the mind and reality , I have to read thisover and over again and memorise this !

I wanted a basic intro to Buddhism and was recommended this book
I wanted a basic intro to Buddhism and was recommended this book. It is fascinating and inspiring which has helped me to take a good look at myself, how I live my life and encouraged me to reflect on compassion and mindfulness. I did however find some of the sections difficult to get my head around which will require a re-read. Good intro book.

Good but
maybe a bit sectish or cultish The Dalai lama's opinion seems to be very tollerant if other religions indeed even accepting that some people believe in a duality of two religions,, but this book seems to be that buddism should be exclusive indeed 2 of the 12 commitments for going for refuge are not to goto teachers who contradict budda and to regard images of budda as actual buddas .maybe this sort of commitment is necessary to go for refuge . some may agree with this for me to leave this attitude out and then it is a good book. Also is the book an advert for the NKT (Kadampa buddist centres )set up by the author or is the last few pages an offer of help or an invitation to visit or contact centres offering courses to assist study this is for the reader to decide

The best introduction for those who want to do rather than chat about it
Buddhism is a huge subjest with many intry points. This book does not cover all of them by a long way. It's not meant to.. Instead you get the essential reference points with which to build a genuine practice . A real antidote to modern life and a big step towards peace of mind.
