I like these so far, the aluminum backing is a far better platform. The stones seem to cut well, though I've not used them a whole lot yet. I do believe they cut maybe a little better, than the original diamond stones that came with the Zarilk angle guided sharpener. Time will tell if these stones wear any better than the original ones, as those seem to wear out fairly fast. I think the product works well, for the price I paid. I've yet to purchase the higher priced stones, to make a fair judgment in comparison.

Would like it if they were longer.Work well for my sharpening setup.

Thin and flexible are not really desirable attributes for a "stone". But with a little work you can't beat this set for the price. Simply remove the foam backing and permanently affix to a better sub-straight and you have a decent sharpening system for carving tools or knives. I wouldn't recommend this set for plane irons as these a little small for something of that size in my opinion. I like that the grit is etched into the top so there's no mistake in selecting.

Kudos to Xarilk for upgrading the sharpening stones that come with the Gen 3 knife sharpening system to have a metal backing to prevent flexing when mounted. HOWEVER, the stones that come in this "add-on" set have not been upgraded and suffer from the flexing problem. This was a combo deal on Amazon (gen 3 knife sharpening system and extra stones) you would think that they all would have been of the same quality.*UPDATE*After contacting Xarilk customer support, they sent out the newer metal backed "add-on" stones - no charge. Also, they pointed to a more current bundle that has all metal backed stones (search for B0DDXMLK2X, it should be the first item listed).They were very responsive (messaging on weekends and way past normal office hours). Wow, these are great stones... solid bases and the diamonds on mine were nice and flat without imperfections. Almost no variation in thickness so I didn't need to reset my angle when switching stones. The aluminum bases needed a bit of dehorning cause there were some pretty sharp edges but other than that, I was so impressed I immediately bought another set for when these finally die. I believe these will "break in" beautifully as they are very sharp out of the box. I only wish there were more grit choices in this style. I have searched quite a bit on Amazon but can only find the ones on plastic bases. Out of the box these seem much more coarse than the grit would suggest, hence the break in, but the grind was very even without much scratch variation. Brand new the 240 cuts like a 120 and the 1000 cuts probably about like a 400-600 but develops the burr very quickly and I use regular stones to finish anyway. Due to their origins, there may be QC issues so if you get a bad set, exchange them because the good ones I can tell you are phenomenal for the price.

All metal and I suggest you get the extra stones because you will get them in the future for sure. Take your time when using it and get a rhythm this will produce razor sharp blades if you do your part.

I ordered a fixed angle knife sharpener, and these were an optional add on. I didn’t expect much but the diamond plates I have my eye on are premium and very expensive, so I figured I’d try these in the meantime.I’ve been pleasantly surprised! They seem to do a good job sharpening. Even on high end steels like magnacut. They have an aluminum plate backing so no flexing, and the fit perfectly in the stone holder of my sharpener. It’s similar to a TSPROF.I’m sure these would do just fine for most people, but when it comes to sharpening I’m a perfectionist and searching for the best I can find. Having said that, I DO recommend these.
