ICEtrekkers Shoe Chains

I got these for a spring backpacking trip where there was a chance that we'd encounter snow. They are fairly cheap and lightweight, so it seemed like it wouldn't hurt to bring them. So glad that I did! I'm not sure I would have made it past the snowy mountain pass without these shoe chains. They gave me enough traction and peace of mind to take on some steep and icy sections of trail, which otherwise would have caused me to panic.These are durable, compared to Yaktrax. I could keep them on while walking over snow/rock mix, while my hiking partners had to take their Yaktrax off. Since they're much cheaper than the more serious solutions (like Kahtoola microspikes), I highly recommend taking them if you think you might need some traction help.They are a bit difficult to put on, but nothing prohibitive. Since they can handle some dirt and rocks, you won't have to take them on and off very often.

I'm a upstate new yorker that works at a jewish summer camp, we work year round maintaining and repairing the property. The camp is actually the largest in the whole northeast, and when winter comes, the slush, mud, ice, snow, all make walking very hard. And with a 160 buildings we do alot of walking. So with these easy to slide on and off grips, I can walk without a problem in and out of cabins, the low profile of the chains dosent tear up floors but it also provides an unbeatable traction. For the price these really are unbeatable. The chains actually work way better the rubber ones with studs I had a few years ago. Overall I would highly recommend these as they also don't hinder your driveing, meaning I leave them on even when I'm driving the work truck. They with hold a little mud or snow on them but it comes out easy. So after a wet slimy winter, I undoubtedly give these 5 stars!

Have owned the "spring" type cleats before, but they always wore out fairly quickly. These are real welded chains and very durable. I have worn these while climbing ladders and they work great. Kind of feel like horse spurs when you walk.They do tear up floors pretty easily.The two main problems typical of this design are still present:1- The weakest part is the rubber, as it stretches over your shoe/boot. These are durable, but the rubber will likely be the first part to break.2- The chains are dangerously slippery if you step on a wet polished surface (marble, granite, etc). These type of surfaces are not commonly seen.Overall, I would recommend them over the spring type or large teeth versions. I keep them in the truck near the driver's seat so they are reachable in a moment's notice.

I had Yaktraks which r ok for walking on a road but as soon as u get on to trails with rocks & sticks it's easy to break the wire on the Yaktraks but with the Ice Trekkers they have the strength to make it easy to hike the trails here in Colorado

I've had a similar pair of chains on my boots, for ice fishing, for years. Always wok well and make it safe on ice.Bought a pair of ICETrekkers for my wife. They seem very well made. Chain is larger than what I'm used to,but should work well. She was out using them in yesterday's storm and they were great. She was much more atease as we had periods of ice and snow. She was able to walk around on the slick icy areas with confidence.We're in our sixties and don't need to fall. These are the perfect insurance.For those who mention it, yes you must pull to stretch these on your boots. That is why they stay put once installed.I'd recommend these and would purchase again if needed.

I live in northern Wisconsin and pretty much walk my dogs on snow and ice packed roadways everyday through-out the winter months. I have used Yaktrax (several styles) and a couple other brands of shoe traction devises, which for the most part have worked fine, but they seem to have a short life span for the price you have to pay to buy them. While looking for a replacement (for a broken pair of Yaktrax), I saw the ICE Trekkers listed, so I thought I would give them a try, to see how they worked. I should also say, that I wear heavy insulated leather boots (size 10.5 to 11's) who's soles are much larger than normal sized foot ware, so I usually try to buy devices that are a size larger then what is normally recommended, to accommodate my larger boot size. I bought the X-Large (Men's 13) size, and I'm happy that I did. They fit my heavy leather boots just fine, and are easy to put on and take off. They offer great traction and seem to be heavily constructed and durable. I've been using them for about 3 weeks and I'm happy!

I use these during the winter in our heavy snow and ice. My main use is while shoveling and scraping snow and ice and short walks. I keep them on a spare pair of winter boots ready to wear at any time. The only drawback has been that they were very hard to stretch enough to get them on the boots in the first place. I wear Women's 7.5 and got the medium. I wonder if the large would have worked. The price has increased so I won't be getting them. I wanted to move them to a newer boot but will need help getting them moved. They haven't stretched out either.

I will likely come back to this review as the years go on but for now this things are a life saver. I'm a delivery driver in the Midwest and was worried about how bad things would get with ice, as some of the places I deliver to are poorly shoveled and often unsalted. Though we only have had two snowfalls of the year (Boo nature, I say boo!) these things paid for themselves right away. It takes a bit to get them on, but they provide wonderful traction and kept me off my arse.
