When I first played this album I thought "well its not Tom Petty" and I left it for a while, but when I played it again I realised it was a wonderful tribute to the late great Tom Petty, with a great mix of Country artistes and tracks, no wonder its big in America.

A real mixed bag, as you might expect - but Dolly steals it
Many of these covers of Tom Petty songs are straight ahead, unsubtle renditions of the originals (Marty Stuart, George Strait, Luke Combs and Brothers Osborne are cases in point). However, there are some more interesting ones, such as Lady A doing 'Stop Dragging' My Heart Around', The Cadillac Three and Breland doing 'Free Fallin'', and Rhiannon Giddens delivering an orchestral take on 'Don't come Around Here No More' with the Silkroad Ensemble (which does need a few listens). However, the standout tracks for me are Margo Price delivering a raunchy 'Ways to be Wicked' with Mike Campbell, and Dolly Parton giving her heartfelt take on 'Southern Accents'.The less said about the Willie Nelson and Steve Earle contributions, the better!
