A great intermediate grammar
I studied under Dr. McAffee for a semester before the release of this book, and have used this book in an independent-study fashion to continue my Hebrew education. I have found that the book is easy to understand and does a good job of transitioning the student from basic Hebrew concepts to a higher level of understanding that involves some more interpretive work and complexity. I have also used the “going deeper” series for my Greek education, and believe this book is a good Hebrew equivalent to the Greek version of this intermediate textbook. I highly recommend this book, my only complaint would be that this book is missing some of the summary charts at the end of the chapter. My favorite feature of the “Going Deeper with Greek” was the summary charts at the end of each chapter, making studying and recapping information incredibly convenient. These charts are missing from the Hebrew textbook, and they are definitely missed. Do not let that dissuade you from this volume, however, as this book has been incredibly helpful for me!

Great all-in-one grammar/syntax for the intermediate student of Biblical Hebrew
I had the privilege of studying recently under Dr. Hardy, one of the co-authors of this volume, and in another class I used a pre-print version of this grammar/syntax for a textbook. Thus as soon as Amazon had a page up for it (last year), I pre-ordered a copy posthaste! It finally arrived today, and I was quite satisfied: paper quality is excellent, the binding is solid, and overall it's very good quality. My assessment is that this book does an excellent job transitioning the student from learning the basics of morphology and syntax to being prepared for more advanced studies. Drs. Hardy and McAffee provide plenty of references to the broader field of linguistics and how its conclusions aid the study of Biblical Hebrew (BH), as well as to discussions in other areas of scholarship on the various Semitic languages, and how their relation to each other illuminates various features of BH. They also do an excellent job recapping previous scholarship upon all the different features of BH in the appropriate sections of the book.Having used this book myself, I'd most definitely recommend it to others! It's a great introduction to more advanced BH grammar and syntax, and will give you an excellent orientation into the wider world of Hebrew scholarship.
