LIFETIME WARRANTY AND SUPER EFFECTIVE
This tool arrived two days ago. Due to recent rains, our normally neat yards had a surfeit of weeds and dandelions. Having read all the glowing reviews on this tool, I could not wait to get outside and try it. Within about 15 minutes of its delivery, nearly every weed in my front yard was GONE!! INITIAL RESULTS: I cannot believe how easily this tool yanked out dandelions, thistles, clover, etc., out of our soft soil. ROOTS: Does this weeder always remove the entire tap root? No, sometimes a root breaks off. I do not see this as a problem. I got the entire visible part of the weed out in about 2 seconds. Now it will take that weed weeks to grow back, if it ever grows back at all....at which time I will, in 2 seconds, extract it again! USE ON HARD DRY GROUND: This tool works better when soil is wet, or at least soft. Dry hard clay? Not so good, since the claws need to pierce the dirt. I could see somebody breaking it if they tried to force it into the adobe soil hard enough. BREAKAGE: Users’ reports of breakage concerned me somewhat, but I have not managed to break this tool so far. What are these folks complaining about? If it breaks, it has a FULL LIFETIME WARRANTY. It says this right on the handle. And I will insist on Amazon’s satisfaction guarantee. If that doesn’t work, I bought it with my VISA and will invoke their purchase protection. THIS THING IS ACTUALLY FUN. I have never owned another dandelion digging tool that was so fast and effective. It is so light and easy, it is actually FUN to dig weeds! It had my entire front lawn (and most of my flower beds) weeded in about 15 minutes after I opened the box. It weeded my entire backyard two days later. There is almost no fatigue, and very little bending over. It pulls the weed and roots out, and then you just “chuh-chunk” the handle (like a pump shotgun) to “eject” the weed into a basket. Buh-bye!! I love it. NOTE: Sometimes the weed comes out with an ounce.or two of soil attached, leaving a little crater behind. I just re-water the area and it looks fine. I see no way weeds will be able to grow fast enough to keep up with me and my new Fiskars weeder. Not unless it breaks on me...in which case, I will get another one!! See below.... WARRANTY! There is actually a sticker right on the handle that says: "FULL LIFETIME WARRANTY: This product is warranted to be free of defects in material and workmanship for as long as the original consumer owns the product." In other words, this tool seems to have a strong warranty. I do not see how I could ever be upset over it breaking, if that means I can just get a brand new one for free. If you ever have a problem, they even list their 800 number for you. (866) 348-5661 04/12/2018 UPDATE I not had a single problem with it. This weeder is fantastic. It is actually FUN to use. I’ve been happily showing it to my neighbors and many friends. I don't often give 5 stars, but at this point, I could hardly be more delighted with it. I see why 70% of its reviewers have given it 5 stars. If FISKAR has ever denied a warranty claim on anyone’s weeder, please share your details. Remember...they provide a free FULL LIFETIME WARRANTY. THIS IS NOW, BY FAR, MY FAVORITE YARD TOOL

Weeds Be Gone!!!!
Because of back issues I was desperate for an answer to get rid of my weeds without constantly bending over and pulling them. Fiskars was my golden answer. It was delivered on a rainy day but because of all the other great reviews, I went out in the yard to see if it was as great as I had read in the reviews. OMG!!!! It was so easy and worked so well that I ended up with four bags of weeds. Two of my neighbors came out to see what I was doing. I let them try it and they were hooked and wanted one of their own. It is so effective and gets the weeds out by the roots. This is my new garden toy. This item is such a good value and well worth the money.

It's great! It works! Makes weeding easy.
This is a great tool. I used it after a good soaking rain, and I’m sure it would work much better in damp ground than dry ground. (Fiskars makes two models of this tool, one with three claws, one with four. Mine has four claws, which I suspect works better for grabbing the weeds.) If you watch how the tool works, once you plant the claws in the ground, a plate clamps the leaves of the weed from the top. To make sure the plate clamps (downward) on the leaves, I think you have to push down on the orange ejector handle. As other reviewers have noted, it’s important to center the claws over the weed so it can properly grab the weed. This is easiest on large weeds that spread radially from the center. Also important, pull the weed out slowly—there’s less likelihood that the root will break off. Occasionally a weed doesn’t come out, but chances are you loosened it on the first try and can get it the second time. Several reviewers noted that the large plastic piece at the bottom could be stronger, and for some users it broke. So I was careful not to put too much pressure on this part. Note that it’s not for your foot, as you might guess, but it provides the leverage for the pulling the weed as you tilt the tool away from where the weed is. I went out just to test the tool, but it was so successful I just kept at it for about an hour and filled two large plastic buckets with weeds. I would say the tools works best for large honkin' weeds that spread 4 inches or more from the center (more to grab onto). It doesn’t seem to grab on as well to smaller weeds. This was a surprise to me: I have a certain kind of grass in my yard that grows in clumps (not crabgrass). I don’t know what it is, but the blades are thicker than my lawn grass, and it’s just “unsightly.” I found that if I could center the weed puller over a clump and grab it with the clamp, I could usually get the whole thing out, because the roots are not that deep. So usually I could pull these clumps out whole, without pulling out the desirable grass. This was amazing. Several reviewers said it leaves holes in your lawn. I found that usually the holes were not that big, but if you pull a really big weed than you’re going to have a big hole. Better to have a hole you can fill with soil and grass seed than a big ugly weed! Finally, my new lawn is pretty rocky. If you hit a rock, you can’t grab the roots and the weed, so in that case you might was well just move on. I salute whoever invented this contraption. It works! Glad I bought it.

Handy tool. Does its job well and for a long time.
Its a great tool. I had one before this for years. It could be improved a little if it had a wider base blade.. maybe but those are hard to find. I've seen review videos that rate this highly say a few others can do as well or better with a wider scooplike blade, but I couldn't find any available to get at a decent quality this time around. One note, don't leave these outside in the rain. Long term thats what killed my old one. Theres a metal spine inside the fiberglass handle that eventually rusted to the point where the handle bent over. After ya few summers of heavy use the foot lever can break. But we're talking use in compacted rocky ground and far beyond what I would expect of a tool. I shaped some steel plates to go on either side and bolted them using the stock holes, and went on to another several years of use. So this will definitely work on weeds better than most tools. Even when abused it will last for years and can be repaired to last even longer. Great tool. Oh yea if you loosen the roots with a slight motion. Reposition and then pull the bigger weeds it will remove a lot less soil.

Trickier For Crabgrass, But Does The Job.
Up until a few days ago, my biggest lawn enemy was the dreadful crabgrass, hard to kill and even harder to take out from its roots. I was using the painful method, on my knees, small crowbar and depending on the size of the crabgrass and how deep its roots are, it would take me from 5 to 10 minutes to take it out... each!! So I found the Fiskars Uproot Weed and Root Remover...I don't care how long this has been around, I just know one thing...it's what I've been looking for. As I mentioned above, my main pain on my butt has always been crabgrass, reason being, my neighbor doesn't take care of his lawn, and so it is covered with them, somehow they end up on my yard and each year is the same pain for me to get rid of them...UNTIL NOW. So let me give you a simple tip for removing crabgrass (trust me, this afternoon I removed about 20 of them): You want to make sure you know where the root ball is, so spread out any actual grass around the weed and follow the weed's branches; Crabgrass is tricky, you may think you have the Fiskars lined up to the center of the weed, but you may be wrong, crabgrass tends to flatten as it grows, and so the root ball is always off from what you may perceive as the "center" of the weed; after moths of being plagued by this pain in the butt weed, I've noticed that its roots are usually spread out, so even with this wonderful tool, you'll most likely have to go in twice or even three times to remove a single crabgrass bunch. However, the younger the weed is, the less roots it has and those usually take only one time with the Fiskars, again, if you first locate the root. Of course, not everything is perfect, and here are a couple of cons about this tool: First, a mix of plastic and metal construction. I heard and felt some straining on the tool when I was removing a very mature crabgrass, but luckily, the tool did not break. Second, and this is more of a WARNING than a con. Since you are removing the weed entirely with its roots, you will leave a HOLE in the ground, more even so when removing crabgrass, since its roots are a mix of curled up hardened roots (again, depending on maturity). So be ready to fill up the holes with dirt. If you have an infestation, I suggest you get some grass seed, some soil and patch up any big holes you leave behind. Other weeds such as dandelions and leafy weeds are easily taken out without much of an impact on the ground. Needles to say, those weeds don't have a prayer...but don't get me wrong, like the title of my review says, with Crabgrass, it is trickier, but does the job. All in all, I couldn't be happier, this is a wonderful invention and has saved me the huge pain of dealing with weeds, literal pain. My back thanks you Fiskars and my neighbors even more, 'cause I don't curse anymore...if anything, they now probably think I'm nuts, since I was literally laughing as I took each weed out! ha!

It works great, not sure about the shipping technique.
We received the product as the photo shows, I can only imagine the fun and jokes the various shipping folks had as that product rolled through the shipping line. i.e. Trying to pull Excalibur from it's stone, using a Minecraft hammer, fighting zombies, etc... In short the tool works for our needs, and if it ever breaks we will order one again. Hopefully the shipping box choice will be a bit more fitting for a tool this size. Keep reading below for what we thought. Luckily the device is tough, the handle was scared with gouges from rubbing against things as it made it's way to us, truly battle scared but showed how sturdy it was. We pulled "Excalibur" (A.K.A Fiskars Weeder) from the cardboard box as we were ready for battle, it was in great shape, the four prongs glistened in the sunlight, and the handle showing plenty of scars from the time of history. Ergonomically the handle is designed for smaller hands and fit like a chicken egg in the palm of the hand. it could use with a larger differently shaped handle, but it will work and works well enough as it is. Absolutely easy to use, push and step on the foot pedal and tilt back, tap the tip to leave tap the small cup of dirt from the weed you pulled. and use the yellow slider in the middle of the tool to slide the weed back out of the forks. Depending on the weed type, some will need to be back filled with some soil, not much, maybe half a coffee cups worth. If you don't back fill or tap the soil back off the root, be ready to have a lot of little holes in the lawn. While the four prongs used to poke down and pull the root out look really sturdy and seem like they would be difficult to bend, I'd recommend making sure your soil is damp. We have a adobe type clay that when it's dry is hard as a rock, even after a light rain we still watered the weeds that we were about to use it on. It worked well for small low growing weeds. For the taller weeds we ran a mower on it's tallest setting to remove the tall top from the weed. After that you are able to place the four prongs around the base, push down and tilt the handle back, the roots will easily pull up out of the ground. We found that straight roots about 7 to 9 inches deep. Clumps of low laying roots will have no issues as long as they are not super thick. Highly recommend this tool, makes it so much easier if you have a need for some weeding and it's a lot easier to do this using the tool than by hand with a pitchfork or garden trowel and pully them by hand.

Horrible "Customer Service". Buyer Beware
After using the 4 claw weeder a handful of times, it broke. Since it advertised a warranty, I assumed I would be a little inconvenienced by having to file a warranty claim and then be delayed a week or two in my yardwork while I waited for the replacement item to arrive. I was very wrong. I emailed Fiskars (no contact phone number, just email) and notified them of the broken item and requested a replacement. After five days, they (no name proved in the email) responded to my email and stated that “We apologize for the inconvenience, however, due to unprecedented sales and factory delivery delays all models of our weeders will be out of stock until mid to late 2024”. I found this an unusual response since we were currently beyond mid and already in late 2024. I thought that I may have received an automated response and thought I would point this out in my response and hopefully get a detailed response from an actual person. Which I think I did, unfortunately. The response I received went something like this, As previously stated, we will not have the 4 claw weeder in stock until mid to late 2024. I’m don’t know how they intended this response to be received by me, but I took it as rude and not helpful. My options were to receive a $62.00 credit (good for 6 months) to use on their website or a refund check that can take up to 30 days to receive. Since a 30 day delay would put me too far behind in my yard work, I went for the $62.00 credit option. I thought that since the original weeder was $51.39, Fiskars was providing customer service and giving me a $10.00 over the purchase amount to say sorry for the inconvenience. However, when I went to their website, link provided by Fiskars customer service, I realized that their website did not list prices. Their website had their products and descriptions but if you wanted pricing then you had to click on a link to Amazon, Home Depot, Walmart, Lowes, ACE Hardware, or Tractor Supply. I clicked on Amazon and selected the 3 claw weeder ($39.97) and a pair of pruning shears (12.99). The price totaled $52.96. Which by my math is UNDER the $62.00 credit offered by Fiskars. I received the 3 claw weeder but not the pruner. I emailed Fiskars and inquired on the status of the pruners and they responded with “Hello Russel, As previously explained, we cannot send an additional item. Your credit was $62.00, and the 3 claw weeder was listed on our website for $59.99. There would not be enough left over to include any additional items.” Couple of items here to address. First, my name, which I put multiple times in the email conversation, is Russell (with 2 L’s). Not a big deal but there had been several back and forth messages and I stated my name several times. It shows me that either they are not paying attention to the emails from customers, or they don’t care, or both. The second issue, there was no “As previously explained”. I replied with: “First of all, my name is spelled Russell. Secondly, your website does not provide prices, only links to 3rd party sellers. As previously explained, Amazon, via your website, lists the 3 claw weeder at $39.97 and the Pruner at $12.99 for a total of $52.96. Which is under the $62.00 credit. See screenshots below. - RUSSELL” I added a screen shot of the items and prices stated on Amazon and a screen shot of the calculator screen where I added the prices. Fiskars replied with: “Hello, The credit was to items from our website. Our prices are different from Amazon and we do not match their prices with a credit to our website. We apologize for any confusion.” I replied with: “What a scam. I paid for a 4 claw weeder and ended up with a 3 claw weeder. Not to mention all of the hassle. Please provide a contact number so I can officially make a complaint. - Russell” I sent that email 5 days ago and still have not received a response. Bottom line, I paid for a 4 claw weeder and ended up, after several weeks and many emails of hassle and frustration, with a 3 claw weeder and ended up ghosted by Fiskars customer service. BUYER BEWARE!

Surprisingly Effective & Satisfying
I can confidently say this tool far exceeded my expectations. At 39" long, the handle is the perfect height. I’m 5’6", and I can use it comfortably without bending, which makes a huge difference during long weeding sessions. It feels sturdy but not heavy, which makes it easy to maneuver. To use it, you simply press the claws into the ground around the weed, tilt the handle back, and pull. The four sharp stainless steel claws grab onto the roots surprisingly well. Best of all, you don’t even have to touch the weed afterward, the orange slider ejects the weed cleanly with a simple push, and it rarely jams. This tool works best on open lawns or soil where you have room to step down with it. In tighter garden beds or around delicate plants, I still reach for my hand tools. One thing to note: since it pulls the weed roots out along with a chunk of soil, you’re left with a small hole. It’s nothing major, but worth mentioning if you’re particular about having a perfectly smooth lawn.
