LaTeX: A Document Preparation System (Addison-Wesley Series on Tools and Techniques for Computer T)
C**E
The definitive Latex manual
Latex: a document preparation system was stolen in a burglary, along with my laptop. Not having this book makes writing papers a lot harder to get right. Mainly reference to remind me how things are done; but necessary to prepare well laid out and attractive papers. The content is solely my problem. Indispensible.

Brilliant book
Explains LaTeX in a way that's easy to understand, and only tells you what you need to know; nothing superfluous. Heartily recommended as an introduction to LaTeX, or if you just want to improve your basic skills.

LaTeX 2e - The (Basic) User's Guide
The Author of this book is simply the initial developer of LaTeX. For me, this book is the right place to look for answers concerning LaTeX 2e, but only the simple ones, because this book covers only the very basics of LaTeX. In this book you won't find answers for more complicated tasks. You won't find also detailed descriptions of the most important Packages. To answer those complicated questions you need The Latex Companion . However, for those who want to learn LaTeX, and learn it well (in my opinion), this book is a must have.

The original and one of the best
An invaluable guide to LATEX. Well written, systematic, concise and well indexed.LATEX isn't perfect, nor is this manual, but it introduces you to the basic skills of good technical document preparation. For what it lacks and to learn about available packages that remedy these lacks, go to the "TUGnewfaq" document of the TEX Users' Group.
