Drives squirrels nuts.
The small birds love it and the squirrels hate it.

So far, this feeder is keeping the squirrels out.

This feeder is, in the proper context, the perfect prop for any parent wishing to teach their kids both about the intelligence of birds and about how to properly channel anger into positive activities. "The proper context" in this case is something along the lines of "common grackles are emptying my feeder and I want little birds to have a chance." Spoiler alert: it won't work. This feeder is not grackle-proof. No feeder is grackle proof. I am convinced that I could hang a hermetically-sealed diamondglass tube of seed and the grackles would figure out a way to empty it in 2 hours. If you have grackles, just bite the bullet and get that 2nd mortgage to pay for bird seed. The little finches and sparrows and whatnot will have to fend for themselves. My other feeder is an otherwise-excellent Brome Squirrel-Buster - one of the kind where the outer screen-and-perch is spring-loaded to drop down when too much weight is applied. With a little modification (adding weight) the trigger weight can be lowered to exclude grackles but admit everything from the slightly-smaller redwing blackbird on down to tiny sparrows. But the grackles, they're wily critters and they have figured out that if they flap their wings while resting on the perch, they can take enough weight off that the magic food portal appears. Two hours later the tube is empty. One website recommends removing the perches because grackles don't like to hang from vertical surfaces, but little finches will have no problem. Clearly the grackles in my area are descended from bats or something because they will hang upside-down if they have to. Removing the perches was no barrier to them whatsoever. Another two hours, another tube of food. So I elected to buy this GrayBunny caged feeder thinking there's no way a grackle can fit through the cage. I will note for practical review purposes that this feeder is cheaply built, but serviceable. Same thing you'll find at the local big-box home store, but cheaper here at Amazon. The lid snaps down securely, though I doubt it will keep rain out if there is any wind. The tube is quite small, at least compared to the Brome Squirrel-Buster. It holds about 1/3 as much seed - maybe 3 cups or so. But hey, it'll only be little sparrows and finches eating so it will last all day at least, right? No, not right. A grackle has no problem at all jamming its head through the outer cage and their grabby little beaks are quite long enough to reach the seed. Feeder was empty within an hour. So I tried blocking off the cage openings right in front of the ports, figuring it would stymie the grackles, but the finches could enter through a different opening and maneuver to the seed ports. A) The one finch I saw trying to eat could not figure out how to get into the cage, and that gave me the sadz. B) The dozen or so grackles that swarmed the thing took 5 seconds to figure out they could jam their heads into an adjacent opening and still twist around to reach the seeds. At the moment I have given up. Both the Brome and the Gray Bunny are up and open for pillaging by the blue-headed horde. My mortgage application is at the bank, and the dump truck is due to deliver this week's seed shipment later this afternoon. The grackles have won this round.

Beautiful Bird Feeder! BEST SQUIRREL DETTERENT!
I love this! Just received it, filled it up and put it out for breakfast. I took a bird feeder down yesterday that the rascally squirrel dismantled. This is smaller than I thought it would be but, it is prettier than I thought it would be too. We will see how well this works keeping the squirrels out. They get fed too but the birds need their own space and food! Update 6/7/25 , months after purchase. This bird feeder is my number one for squirrel deterrent. Though I feed the squirrels peanuts and corn cobs, I try desperately to keep them away from the bird food. With all of my other feeders the squirrels have managed to lift the top of the house even though a button should be depressed to lift the lid up. This bird feeder is like fort knox. There is no way to open the top unless I apply moderate force to pop the clasp. So, because of the fence around it, the squirrels can't access the food where the birds do, and because of the clasped lid on top they can pop it open and empty the column. BEST SQUIIRREL DETERRENT for many reasons! Thank you! I can't find a larger one under your company page. I'd buy that one too!

NICE, ATTRACTIVE FEEDER!
I put this right outside a window and it’s actually a nice, cute feeder to look at. It’s sturdy and easy to fill with seed. Pretty happy with this purchase!

Hard to keep clean.
It is squirrel proof, but has a very strange design that makes is hard to clean. Birds can't reach the bottom of the central tube, and the birdseed can rot. There is no reason it should be designed this way. It's also hard to clean - not as advertised "easy to clean". But birds like it and no squirrels

Openings too small for my birds.
Kept squirrels and Birds out! Opening too small for my birds..Junkos, sparrows, chickadees, nuthatches. I had to cut out much of the wires to open it up. It’s very sturdy and I do like the way it fills. I left enough support for sturdiness. They haven’t touched it as it was for 4 months. Hope they give it another try now. Not recommended, poor design.

My review
So far this has been doing its job! Feeds the smaller birds. Keeps the bullies out. I loved it so much I bought a second one. The ONLY bummer is how difficult it is to give them a good cleaning. Can not pull the glass part all the way out. That's the only drawback.

I can't understand the negative reviews left for this, especially the ones that claim it is flimsy and that squirrels will be able to prise off the lid. The metal cage and the tube are both very sturdy and well made and the lid fits so tightly that I had to use some force to open it. I have many varieties of small birds in my garden and lately a squirrel has been visiting every day and eating lots of the sunflower seeds that I filled my old feeder with. About an hour ago, I put up the new feeder - the birds found it very quickly and soon found that they could get inside the cage. Then the squirrel arrived. He tried every way he could think of to get at the seeds and after a few minutes, hs gave up, returning a bit later for another try and this time gave up very quickly. I know others have said that a squirrel will always find a way in, so I'm being realistic about it, but so far, so very good!

Not robust enough for my needs. Too fragile. But otherwise a good idea - could be made stronger;

Does a great job for what we bought it for keeping squirrels and bigger birds out of the feeders. Grackles were making a real mess with our old feeder they actually threw the seed out of the feeder and on the ground making a real mess and wasting the seed but now the smaller birds can eat in peace while the grackles have their own feeder on the far side of the yard where any mess they make is not a bother and the doves clean most of the seed on the ground up. these feeders do an excellent job and just as they are advertized to do.

Looks good but very few smaller birds appear to like it, It sure does keep the Jays and such out. I guest a bird learning curve.
