Schaum's Outline of Probability and Statistics, 4th Edition: 897 Solved Problems + 20 Videos

Great!!!

Concise and to the point. Great for cross referencing with other texts, to make sure I haven't missed or misunderstood something. Need a bit of a grounding in maths to fully understand it, but if you do have that grounding, then it's a great time saver.

Good quality publication, very useful, recommended.

The book arrived today and I've just started reading it, but on page 5 I immediately hit a stumbling block that has taken me over 2 hours to overcome! This is nothing to do with my maths, but simply the poor quality printing and clear lack of quality of control. At the bottom of page 5, theorem 1-1 there is a misprint, they have used "(" instead of "⊂" ..... to some this may seem like a minor mistake, but to somebody new to probability/statistics notation this was a massive throw-off and I would completely not expect this from a quality publication. Big let down!

Loads of worked examples

日本語で書かれた本は、共通する欠点があり、それは、勘所がわからないところです。本書は、比較的初心者に良いと思います。 (追記) 確率統計の教科書は、どうしてか、おそらくこの概念を理解するのは、難しいのでしょうね。

Please clarify that "Schaum's Statistics, 6th Edition" by Spiegel/Stephens is not a newer edition of "Schaum's Probability & Statistics, 4th Edition" by Spiegel/Schiller/Srinivasan. The Prob/Stat book is heavily Mathematical and laced with Calculus and contains a formidable final chapter on Bayesian Methods. The Stat book is free of Calculus and presents results of Statistical software as solutions for several problems in the book. I have waited at least seven years for a 5th Edition of "Schaum's Probability & Statistics", hopefully with a great increase in worked problems and a careful examination for errors. We are all at the mercy of Schaum's as to the future existence of "Schaum's Prob/Stat, 5th Ed". I would also instantly buy "Schaum's 3000 Solved Problems in Probability & Statistics" (in the style of the Schaum's Problem Solvers that began to appear around 1988) if such a work ever came to be.

Il libro segue egregiamente lo spirito della collana: esaustivo in ogni aspetto teorico, abbondanza di esempi concreti sviluppati in ogni loro parte. E' un valido strumento sia per lo studio della/e materia/e, sia per un ripasso, sia per impostare analisi pratiche simili. Ovviamente non è negli obiettivi di questa collana dare dimostrazioni, anche se molto si deduce sempre dagli esempi. Consiglio.
