This is neither a mini lathe nor a toy
This is a miniature lathe. It is built well and solid. Being the "WM101a plus" model it comes with plenty of accessories. I have run it with wood and pewter. It works well. This is a 1 hp (not HP) motor - hamster power not horse power. When turning, take no more than a paper thin layer at a time and it will work very well. Take more and the motor stops but resumes. The lathe tools use standard size carbide blades so replacements easy to get. Again this is a miniature lathe not a mini lathe - it cost more than my Wen mini lathe but this is very convenient to move around and set up, weighing less than 10 lbs. I am pleased and impressed with it.

Really nice for what it is
This is an awesome little tabletop lathe. I quickly determined it wasn't for me, but it is really well made for the price, and it's nice that it comes as a full kit that you can get to using right away, right out of the box. My issue with it is the tailstock, which comes in this threaded format, instead of a taper.Even an MT1 would be good, but it doesn't have that. That really limits the ecosystem of accessories you can build up. Additionally, the spindle thread is in an M18x1.5, which is also nearly impossible to find accessories for. There are only two chucks that I know of that will go on it, and they both so-so.Finally, the motor is a little underpowered, even for a lathe this size, so you really have to be gentle with your cuts, as bogging it down is really easy.As long as you can get past those reservations as well as its tiny envelope, you will definitely enjoy this. It would make a decent pen lathe.

Really well made
I had tried another (cheaper) mini lathe first, and it was a little too "mini" so I went for this one. After using it last night: It's great for what I'm doing (making wooden jewelry)It came with everything I need except sand paper. The carving tools included are actually a lot better than the tools I had from the local hardware store. The accessories for setup (I don't know the technical terms) jaws, the different bars for resting the tools while working, the centering drill, are all really nice, well made and make setup a breeze.I'm super happy with the purchase, and excited to keep working with it.

It works well for its size
It works well for pen and ring turning. This enabled me to use it in an air conditioned part of my house rather than my larger lathe in my hot garage.

Worked one time
UPDATED: raised from 1 Star to 4 stars. Vendor on their own reached out to offer a refund. Very commendable. I even ordered the lathe again to give it another shotWorked once and died. I have 20 years of wood working experience and do not abuse tools. I ordered this for a small bottle tops fabrication project. I used this once on a test run milling down a piece of 1" wood dowel just to get the feel of the machine. Worked fine. Plugged it in the second time and motor does no turn on. Lights on the power adapter and lathe both on but motor is silent. Trouble shooting guide is worthless and cannot find a way to contact the manufacturer. Buy something more quality

What a great little lathe
Need a mini/micro lathe to work on wooden rings. Do not need the most expensive, just something that gets the job done efficiently and produces a great product. This one does it. And it comes with accessories that I would need to buy with the 3 other lathes I was considering. It is quiet, heavy (well built) and is streamlined for small jobs. I would recommend this to anyone trying to decide if turning is in their future.

Well made, excellent service
The chuck that initially arrived was not centered, and so I contacted customer service by email. I was surprised at how quickly and graciously they responded. They sent me two replacement chucks immediately. I have used the lathe every day for the last month. This machine and the tools that come with it are precise and thoughtfully made, and very much worth the price.

Great desktop lathe
I've been looking for a mini lathe for a long time. All the others have the drill chuck instead of the lathe chuck. This lathe has opened up many possibilities for my jewelry making hobby and works beautifully. The only downside is, it doesn't want to turn at the very lowest speeds when trying to get a very slow spin. I kind of have to manually turn to get as slow as I need for some things. Not a deal breaker for me as the lowest working speed is fine most of the time. It's still worth buying.
