92 of these words are British, not used in US. (white paperback)
I'm not able to use this white paperback version of this book, because 92 of the words are British, and are NEVER used in the US. In the past, I bought an English version that is fine (all American). It's a hardcover (red cover). Usborne needs to specify which it is -- British or American.I bought both the Russian and English version of these paperback books, hoping to use them for some speakers of Russian that are trying to learn American English. But I cannot use these books because there are so many British words -- several on each spread (on average), but the Travel page has about 10 of them! For example, the word written for wrench is spanner, the word for hood (of a car) is bonnet, the word for trunk (of a car) is boot, the word for freight train is goods train, the word for tire is tyre, the word for tow truck is breakdown lorry.Examples on other pages: The word for Santa Claus is Father Christmas, the word for stove is cooker, the word for garden hose is hose pipe, the word for diaper is nappy (which I had at least heard of before, but it's not used in the US). The word for cookie is biscuit. The word for cart (in a grocery store) is trolley. I'll stop typing examples now, but there are 92. Unusable in USA.I'm going to try to get the American English one again, but now I'm afraid to buy any of them. Usborne is a British publisher, and I love their books, but if they want to sell in the US, they must specify whether it is American or British English.UPDATE Jan 19, 2020: I ordered a used copy of the hardcover version with the red cover. In the red hardcover, all the words are American. Yes!! I don't know if all the red hardcover copies are American words or not, but I've gotten two copies of it thus far, and they're both American words. But the white paperback one that this review is about is a lot of British words.

My Students Love This Book
I'm a teacher of English in a private institute in Korea, and this book is doing just what I thought it would: giving my 7- to 13-year-old students a chance to see and find all kinds of everyday objects in delightful picture settings while exposing them casually and naturally to the English language. I've always maintained that acquisition of a mental library of nouns is a key factor in retention of sentence structure in any language. So, thanks for the great book. It gets a lot of use.

Not exactly as descibed
This was a library copy which I was not expecting so the cover was not only covered with stickers from the library but was also pretty beat up. The pages are fine, though. I don't normally complain about used books, but I read the descriptions very carefully, and this was not as nice as I would have thought. The description definitely didn't say it was a library copy which is important to mention.

Love the book
This was used to help an adult learn English words. I bought it used and the seller said condition was “ very good” but it was not quite there. My review is for the book alone.

Excellent learning tools
I have purchased several of these so my review is based upon not just the English one but also Arabic and Italian. These books are great for all ages wanting to learn a second language. Its all very simple, a word and a picture above with each page usually a different topic such as the home, school, work, hospital etc basically the words you would need for your day to day usage. Learning Arabic I have had Arabic teachers recommend these books to young students as a good teaching aid and I have found them useful as gifts to friends who are learning English. The one thing I should say and its probably more important for languages such as Arabic, the book contains the word in that language and then the picture not an English translation so for example if you are reading the Arabic version you will need to know the Arabic alphabet first.Anyway, regardless of what language you want to learn these books are the perfect little helper for any age and at such a reasonable price.

Big hit with 5yo learning to write/spell/read
This book is another Usborne winner in our house. With the covid lockdown i wanted sth that will help my 5yo practice writing/spelling.She started writing recently and kept asking if that’s how you spell this or that. So I figured I’ll get her a book that has words underneath pictures so she can look at the picture, have a go at spelling and check if correct. And that book did just that! She’s also trying to read so pictures help with what it should be and she can tell if she read it correctly. The book is also just very entertaining to look at, search for a ducky on every page and talk about busy pictures with entertaining scenes. It’s 4th day and daughter keeps using the book as intended and even beyond.

Just like it was in the 80s
I got this book for my son as I remember having it in the 80s. Only downfall is it isn't hardback!Great for teaching children new words. Loads of pages with scenes like, the garden, the shed, toy shop, hospital and animals to name a few.My son loves it and with all unborne kids books finding the duck on every page.I got this for my son 6 months ago when he was 2 1/4 his speech and knowledge has come on loads and it's great to see the knew things he's learnt that you wouldn't see everyday!

brillianrt book
More than just a reading aid. children can make up their own stories as well as seek the duck. Especially on the kitchen and garden scenes they can spot the dangers, there are plenty! The book is beautifully illustrated and children will find it amusing and helpful on many levels. My own children had this book, I had to replace it as it got read to pieces. I am now buying copies for the grandchildren who also love it.
