Attention-Grabbing Starters & Plenaries for Teachers: 99 Outrageously Engaging Activities to Increase Student Participation and Make Learning Fun (Needs-Focused Teaching Resource)

After 9 years of working with high school students who experience typical teenage challenges along with additional emotional challenges (labeled as emotionally disturbed in their files) - this wasn’t helpful. I was hoping for tips and new ideas for engaging students, but there really isn’t anything groundbreaking/new/outrageously engaging in this book.The author refers to his website so often that the book feels like a 3am infomercial. Part 4 of this book (pages 114-132) consists of an ad and reviews for another book, a plea for reviews on this book, ‘resource providers’ (ads for friends’ products perhaps?), and more reviews.With this review I am including two pics showing a ‘generic starter’ that literally ends with a ‘free resource’ directing you to his website. I had to wonder a time or two if this was a book equivalent to ‘click-bait’.I gave this two stars instead of one because it could be helpful for new teachers...maybe.

I truly was amazed at all the ideas packed into this book. Not only did Rob provide great engagement ideas but also illustrated lesson killers.As I was reading through the book I caught myself thinking how to apply this starter or how to modify that engagement idea for my classroom setting. Reading it really made me excited to get back into the classroom and want to try these strategies as soon as possible!

There are some truly fantastic ideas here! I used to teach Jr. High special education and there are a ton of ideas from this book that I saved that would have been perfect for that age group and ability level. The templates given are really great and would look fun AND educational filled out and stapled on the classroom wall.

This book has been nothing but helpful! I appreciate the way it’s structured and all the incredible resources that come with it. So great to have when planning engaging lessons for students of all ages!

Great ideas for my 4th graders!!!

What I particularly love about this resource, as a SENCo, is the fact that ideas can be adapted and built upon. This means I am getting 2 for 1! I have been able to extend and expand the ideas into whole lessons, too. Additionally, having to advise staff on meeting needs within their classes, this resource allows me to demonstrate how gaining students' interest, enthusiasm and curiosity enable them to access further lesson content. Thank you!

This book has some really great ideas for starters and plenaries that are so adaptable to every subject! I'm a trainee science teacher and I've been using lots of these ideas in my lessons. The book is written in a really user friendly way and would totally recommended it to anyone in the teaching profession.

I bought the first book in this series and was delighted with the simplicity and practical nature of the strategies and ideas presented.This one is equally practical but is also filled with really engaging, fun activities. I’ve bought collections of starters and lesson activities in the pastbut have been disappointed because a large percentage of the contents tend to be ‘fillers’. Not so with this one –I love all these ideas and I knowmy students will too.

I have only recently bought this book but have already used it to good effect in my lessons. It is full of easy and accessible ideas to get lessons off to a flying start.There is a wealth of free online resources to go alongside. I am particularly enjoying the video tutorials as well.
