I heard about this book while working on my family tree. William Mead is my many-great grandfather. It is written in Old English, which is kinda interesting to see how they spelled and worded words=). This 'Tryal' was used to make sure no other judge could bully the jury (as this Judge did) in England. Thomas Jefferson also used it to protect juries here in America. And of course, It is neat to read about William Penn before he became famous in America.

This was a retaliatory criminal charge because the authorities did not like what Penn and Mead were saying in public. Some things never change WRT to freedom of speech! However the court dismissed the case, and William Penn went on to found Pennsylvania.

This is a fairly short read, but not insignificant. The event recorded played an integral part in the character development of one who held a key role in laying the groundwork for the colonial break from the Crown d is well worth the time.

Five stars? Because its as close to being there as you'll ever get, and it is in engkish so you have the words as they are spoken. One tiny facet of history although, in retrospect, it can be seen as one of the seeds of the revolution against England.
