Good Value
I use these boots for moderate duty in Afghanistan. I would not wear them for extended foot movement over rough terrain, but they are very comfortable and sturdy for light hiking and walking. Boots are lightweight and seem well made. One bad design point is the speed lacing system- the laces can be impaled on the eyes if one is not careful. The boots did come with spare laces. Overall, these boots are super for the price.

Ten Stars
I never heard of Hi-Tech before I ordered these, I think I've found a new shoe company! The first thing I noticed is the light weight after that I put them on and have barely had them off since. Followed this order with an order for my wife. She likes them as well but did put a different insole in to accommodate her high arch.

Very Light! Not so good insole.
My first two purchases of Hi-Tec were from the cheaper Flagstaff Waterproof shoe. I had read reviews saying that the shoe sizes ran small and to buy them a size bigger. I am normally a size 10 and so I bought the 10.5s. When I got those they were HUGE! I returned them (Amazon, you are amazing! I love you!) and got the 9.5 and they fit well. However, the Flagstaff felt really "clunky" and was just not getting a good feel from them. I then returned those (THANKS AGAIN, AMAZON!) and bought these boots. People saying that the insoles of these shoes are totally right. My calfs and arches were hurting not 30 minutes into wearing them. So I've replaced them with my own and they feel great! I love how light they are for hiking boots. They are coming with my to the Grand Tetons in a few weeks and I will update this on how they hold up. I will give these 4/5 stars because of the insole discomfort (having to buy insoles), but so far, I like them!

Boots are OK for the money
I have a pair of Hi-Tec V-lites that I've worn for 10+ years and have gotten 2000 miles+ on them. I consider them the best boots I've owned. The only wear in on the now-smooth soles. These new boots aren't in the same league as the older ones but I guess that's to be expected.Positives:Would work well for lite hiking and casual wear,Have good tractionComfortable with correct sizingDecent appearance,A good value for the price.Negatives:One has to order them 1/2 to 1 full size above normal,Cut low so don't give much high ankle support if that's a need,Quality has definitely diminished over the years,Tongue is shorter and less padded as is the collarWhen I do any serious hiking over rough terrain I use my Vasque boots but find the Hi-Tec ones acceptable for walks over more flat and level terrain.

Great hiking SHOES
These are good all around hiking shoes... not really "boots". Perfect for summer wear and light trail use. Very comfy right out of the box. YOU WILL LIKELY NEED TO PROVIDE YOUR OWN INSOLE. I slipped one of Danner's thin plastic Airthotic right under the useless insole they came with and it was a 100% improvement. Overall, excellent hikers for a good, low price.

BUMMER
This shoe looked great and got mostly good reviews. Also it was priced fairly so I bought a pair. Unfortunately, the shoes sizing is to small and my toe pushes against the front of the shoe inside and hurts. The shoe seems rather flat also. Useless for wearing for a few minutes of walking, much less hiking!

Smaller Than Advertised or Should Be
I could not find the Mens Merrell Eagle Origins anymore so I assumed the Hi-Tecs would be the same shoe more or less considering that they are Brother and Sister companies. I ordered a size 13 M which was too small and they do not make anything larger so then I guess so much for Hi-Tec. have the Mens Raineer and they fit fine so I don't see why a more simplistic boot would be tighter. Unfortunate outcome.

Back in production
The Hi-tec Sierra Lite went out of production some years ago. I and, I'm sure, many other people were disappointed. These are simply the BEST, most comfortable, lite hiking boots I've ever had on! Now that they are back in production I've ordered several pairs to keep my feet happy for years to come!!
