Consistent and repeatable tamping
I have only recently ventured into the espresso rabbit hole with a Bambino Plus/Baratza Encore ESP setup. After watching innumerable You Tube videos on how to dial in and pull a decent shot, the importance of consistent and repeatable puck prep was clear. And that's exactly where this Normcore self-leveling tamper excels: with a little practice you will be able to produce a perfectly level, evenly tamped puck every time. Before getting into the mechanics, though, just a word about the build quality of this tamper. Simply put, it exudes quality in every aspect. Just as with the bottomless portafilter and WDT tool, the Normcore black anodized aluminum is machined perfectly, has a substantial, solid feel and is shaped to fit the hand naturally. It just fits and feel right. The threading for removal of the base plate and spring mechanism is smooth and tight, no excess play anywhere. It's just very well built. It's also quite easy to use. I distribute the grounds with a WDT tool, then place the tamper on the portafilter basket pressing down just enough for the black flange (or lip, whatever you want to call it) to make contact evenly all the way around the basket, then give it a couple of half turns to level the bed and seat the flange evenly around the filter. Then just push down until the tamper reaches its stopping point and that's it - release the pressure on the handle, the base plate will pop back up and you are left with a perfectly even, consistent, repeatable puck. The stock 25 lb. spring has worked well for me, haven't seen any reason to swap out for the 15 or 30 lb. ones that are provided. So while the Normcore tamper certainly isn't the cheapest option out there, this is a case of getting what you pay for. I am certain it has made my entry into espresso world much less frustrating - the shots extract evenly with none of the spurting and spraying you see with an uneven, channeled puck. Highly recommended.

Makes getting the right espresso tamping much easier.
This is a fantastic tamper. It included 3 springs to let you pick what is the right pressure for you. They tell you the force each spring produces yet I think their estimates are a bit low. I am getting proper tamping of about 24 lbs., from the lightest spring. It is 53.3mm which fits the 54 mm Breville basket better than the original.

Just perfect.
Works as great as you’d imagine. Even tamp every time.

Get the right size! better than most
Pretty good it doesn’t have the waves like the other norm core tamper. Changing to spring for different weight tamps was pretty easy but head to figure out which is best for you. It works well but it took me a second one to find the right size for my portafilter. Better than anyone I’ve gotten with a machine.

Gamer Changer!!!! Worth every penny.
Game Changer! WOW I was hesitant to purchase yet another tool for my new machine…. but now… I wish I had purchased this first! As soon as I used it, my shots were balanced. This is a must have for your kit, especially for the imposter barista like me who just wanted fresh grinds every morning and ended up in an unforeseen struggle. Great quality and easy to use!

You should get one. Worth every dollar!
I use the same brand at home and have no issues with it . I’ve got this tamper as a new year present, and who got this become very happy. Solid present.

Coffee tastes better
Coffee tastes better when I use this tamper versus others. Indicates probably making a well compacted slug of coffee. Easy to use, easy to clean, reasonable price. Will buy as gift for others.

The Normcore 58.5mm V4 Spring-Loaded Tamper is a perfect match for the Gaggia Classic 58mm portafilter. The fit is precise — no loose movement, no edge gaps — and the spring mechanism gives you consistent tamping pressure every time. The titanium PVD coating not only looks great but also feels durable and smooth. It’s well-balanced in the hand and makes tamping effortless and repeatable. The included 15lb, 25lb, and 30lb springs are a nice touch for anyone who likes to fine-tune their setup.

I've tried a few tampers like this and this one is the best by far.

I didn't receive the additional 2 springs with the box. Hence the 4 stars. Shouldn't be an issue because I was planning on using the pre-installed 25lbs anyways. However the product is of better quality. Recommended.
