Electronic Music and Sound Design - Theory and Practice with Max 8 - volume 3

The Best Max Resource Out There
These three volumes are the best resource for learning Max/MSP, they are thorough, well written and easy to comprehend if you are willing to put in the effort to read them. While it does take some work to internalize the material, it is worth it as they show how to create virtually every sound that could be used in electronic music. However there is still room for exploration, the book gives example patches and then suggest changes to encourage the reader to go along their own creative journey. I also particularly enjoy that they split each section into Theory and Practice sections, where the theory sections introduce to concept in general term and practice shows how to accomplish this in Max/MSP. This has allowed me to read other more general books on electronic music and be able to implement them into Max myself.

Amazing
One of the best series out there, and the latest book is where everything comes together. Chock full of material and ideas but still very digestible.I’d also say that outside of a classroom setting, this is one of the most in-depth explorations of Max (and sound design) out there with plenty of articles cited.Overall, one of the best investments in both time and money that I’ve spent, and I have a much deeper understanding of both electronic music, and a more nuanced idea of sound. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.
