Ost avenged
Vol 9 finds us on the hunt for Kyo, but before Naofumi and the others can begin their search in earnest, they’re attacked by Yomogi, a wild sword-wielding woman claiming to be an assassin for Kyo! While they’re settling in for the night at that.War is on the horizon, and numerous battles erupt on Naofumi’s quest to find and punish Kyo. With the introduction of Yomogi, we get another beautiful and powerful addition to the Shield Hero’s party, however reluctant she might be. Kyo is a many-faced villain who shows people the side that they want to see, and in doing so, the wielder of the Book weapon has a country ready to go to war with him.TRying to find a way to stave prevent that war and locate and defeat Kyo is an ordeal for Naofumi and co. Not only does he have to keep his eye on Yomogi the entire journey, he has to decide whether or not she’s trustworthy enough to lead them to Kyo. Especially when she believes Kyo is a hero and Naofumi is the villain. What follows are battles full of close calls, power ups that border ex machinas and unexpected twists. I’d be lying if I said that this Volume lacked in a couple of areas. It was an enjoyable read, but I found my attention drifting throughout. Don’t get me wrong, the fights were interesting, the back and forths between the characters is good as ever, but despite the high stakes, I never really felt anyone in the Shield’s party was in any real danger. Maybe that’s due to Naofumi always coming through in the end, but he is the Shield after all, so I guess he should be able to protect those he cares about.I will say that I’m interested to see if he will be able to stay in contact with every he’s met once he’s back in the world he was summoned to. I like everyone, so I definitely want to see and learn more about them. And I wouldn’t mind seeing them help Naofumi out back in the world he was summoned. Only time will tell though. Hopefully things are more engaging in the next Volume, as this one wasn’t one of my favorites.

It dragged..
There no other way to say it the story kinda dragged in the middle there. I already wasn't a fan of isekai guy gets Iseki'ed again and everything is reset direction they went I feel like the author is doing it to build to something later on so i understand why but I still don't like it......... They spend a whole chapter explaining their new Power-ups what more can I say.... And a few on him getting buddy buddy with (villains of his world / heroes of that world)Once they got back to the actually STORY going after KYO?? ( I think that's his name he's actually such a boring villain I don't remember him very well... I guess that's another problem main villain this time given no backstory just a bland OP bad guy. Why is he so evil and OP?? Who knows author never tells us...) Still it was alright again not as great as previous volumes but much better than chapters on power-up... I guess they needed some fluff in there but I would have preferred a few pages on the power-ups and maybe a side story/mission with some link to the plot...Or a mission to get the power-up instead of having them given to him by his new buddies. Then a chapter explaining each and every one.

This series is dragging
I was really enjoying this series early on but three of the last four volumes have haven’t had much character work and are largely giant slogs through endless fighting. Volume 8 made had been better than the previous two and I felt like this new world might be interesting, however now this volume we are again in full slog mode. Too many characters who aren’t terribly defined taking away all attention from Raphtaia and Filo who are the most interesting characters (IMO of course). I’ve bought the next volume already but if it doesn’t pick up I’ll probably drop this series now that there are so many great Light Novels coming out (the market was sparser when this series started).

Not good enough
Seems like the author is running out of ideal. I got the feeling the author want to finish this even with Ryo defeat. But since Ryo is just a vassal holder not as strong as holy holder, Ryo's strength is boosted illogically. More like the author desperately tried to make him stronger. Most of the spirit tortoise energy is stored in Ryo's clone so how does Ryo main body so strong? Ryo has the curse series and the skill to trap enemy in the book's library while Naofumi is the holy weapon holder and he only has the curse series? The power distribution is not correct. Rhisha has been powerup but she barely fight. She cleaned up all the mops with ease in and attacked Ryo violently in book 7. It does not make sense in this book that she has only one change (or 2 I dont remember) to attacked Ryo.

The War has come . . . Shield vs. Book! Who will win?
Continuing on with the last book Naofumi and his growing cast of allies face off against Kyo at long last with new twists and surprises at each turn. This was the first book that the author really worked on improving the length of the intro and its execution, and it came out as the best intro yet! I feel the amount of errors this time was less as well and though the warm-up to the main event is about halfway through it still helps greatly build both the world and the rapidly growing cast get fleshed out more. Naofumi's commentary and snark responses are so much fun and make a great critic of the whole adventure-fantasy genre.

Another Great Volume
An anticipated volume that I waited to end this arc. A good (most) first half is your typical leveling up, training, and what-not, which I feel a bit slow. But I still like the character interaction. The end is just satisfying, sweet sweet payback on Kyo.Can't wait for vol 10 for a new beginning. March 2018 is so far away.

Fantastica
