Sturdy and Useful!
My daughter's violin teacher requested that we buy this for her violin - and it's worked beautifully. It's kind of like having dental braces on a violin - it's very clunky and awkward, but you hope that the pay-off will be worth it! I was worried it would damage the violin - but it hasn't at all. It's basically two metal tubes and a rubber fastener on the back. I suppose you could make one yourself that would work as well - but I liked the convenience of buying this - and it's very sturdy, so it will last. All in all, a great product!

Easy set up and an ideal for learning
I got this one for 1/4 violin and it is easy to place on/off the violin. It helps my daughter to keep the correct bow placement and alignment on the violin. We had it for about a month now, and my daughter is getting better without it, so it definitely helped her to learn proper bow positioning and movements. Before it, we had used straws(basic plastic straws for drinking beverages), but they weren't helpful with the alignment of the bow in correct positioning for better quality sound. I am really glad that I decided to get these brackets for her, as it made learning so much easier and more effective!

Served it purpose very well
Great product and served it purpose very well for my daughter. My 9 year old used to constantly struggling to keep the bow parallel to the violin bridge. Problem was gone after using this for a few weeks. A cautionary note for people who are obsessed with not making any scratch to your instruments. It will inevitably scratch your bow. It will not make you feel at ease when you try to clamp it onto your violin and hearing that occasional snapping sound.

Works well for our 7 year old.
Works well for our 7 year old. 1/2 size violin. This is her first year playing violin and this bow guard gives her one less thing to focus on with all the specific positioning.

Pretty good invention
Very simple and effective product. The bars are plastic and certainly won't prevent the bow from going outside (a fully extended bow has a lot of leverage); however, as a guide, it works well for our 9 year old. Only 1 complaint, the brackets that attach it to the violin body stick up about 1/8". This makes it difficult to play the E and G (the 2 outside strings). I wouldn't recommend leaving it on for all of your practice. Just put it on for 10 minutes to practice bowing (mostly on the middle strings), then remove it and see if you're bow position has improved.

Its like training wheels for a violin.
My daughter has been playing violin for a couple years now and has had problems keeping her bow over the finger board. This really does the trick and fits securely in place. It does the trick but its important that they learn to keep the bow held correctly without it in time.
