Lovely quality pieces nice and sturdy with soft pad at the bottom so quiet to move. Were purchased for a chess table so great size. Box is good, quite difficult to open catches but wouldn’t put me off buying again.

The chess set are well made and are well crafted and come in a good wooden box. My only criticism is that the inside of the box is bare rather than lined with felt.

I'm very much a casual chess player, but the pieces are a nice size and feel. They look great too.

I returned these items because they were very light and also pretty small. For the price I would’ve expected larger and heavier pieces, I would not recommend these. I guess the price is due to them being hand crafted, but the glue is visible on them. To me this seems like a standard quality product being sold at a top quality price. I think they should cost £15-20 as £50 is way too expensive.

I started playing again recently after several decades of not doing so, needed some new, slightly larger pieces (but not a board). I dont feel I need expensive "arty" pieces and these seemed about right.They are as I expected: simple, no frills but just what I wanted.The storage box should last and (given I had my old pieces over 40 years) these should see me through. For anybody wanting a simple set at this size, I would recommend - but keep in mind there are no spare queens with here.

Staunton No. 4 Tournament Chess Pieces w/ Wood Box-These are No. 4 pieces and should go with a No. 4 board (squares sized 1.5"-1.75").-Does not come with extra queens.-Pieces are wooden with a more traditional design. Relatively smooth, stained and clear coated finish. Felt pad on the bottom of every piece. Decently weighted.-They aren't top notch quality but are really nicely made for what you pay (I paid around $50 CAD). Higher quality pieces from other sites can run you a LOT more money.-Nothing I received was broken, scratched or scuffed. All in excellent condition.-The box that the pieces came in is of decent quality and compact enough for travelling with. It can fit in pretty much any bag. That being said, it wasn't the best as the hinges and latch aren't exactly lined up and causes the lid to sit a little off to the side. Not a big deal as, again, it's good for what you pay.-These are not exactly superb quality. If you want the absolute best, look elsewhere. If you don't want to pay a whole lot and you want a No. 4 board, already have one, made one yourself or just lost your old pieces, these are great.

I bought this as an attractive yet inexpensive set for a chess board I'm making. I was very dissatisfied with the lumpy and poorly defined economy pieces available elsewhere for under $15, and these proved to be a solid step up.As you can see in the pics, the pieces are hand filling, and mine are big gawmy gorilla hands, so you can see this isn't a wimpy set by any means. The board in the pics has 1 1/4" squares, and the king fills that space up nicely, though it is clearly made for 1 1/2" squares. While simply styled, the pieces are plenty attractive with a semi-gloss finish. One minor gripe is that the bishops lack the defining angled cut shown in the advertising, but I'm not in the habit of quibbling over details when I've spent less than $30 on the thing. It's a bishop. I can tell. If I wanted a fancy bishop I'd be paying $100+, but I'm a tightwad, so this is fine. A lot of reviews like to dump on the storage box the set comes in. I see no problems with it. Though it's not a fine mahogany chest, if you've purchased this set with an eye towards economy, then you shouldn't be surprised that it is a generic wooden box like you can get at A.C. Moore for $6. And if you paid $27 for this set expecting fine, exotic hardwoods, then you should probably take a class in economics, because that's not how these things work. In summary, this chess set is just exactly what I paid for: an attractive, nicely made, sturdy kit for a decent price. What more can you ask for?
