Excellent flash gun
Excellent flash gun. I am reviewing the Micro four thirds version. I'm using it on my Panasonic FZ330. First off, I'm not sure why but I wasn't expecting much from this flash unit. Having used it a bit (not much) the flash is well made and feels a quality item. In the box with the flash unit itself is a soft case, a flash foot mount, and a diffuser. These all pack nicely into the soft case. The flash is small for its size, takes 4 AA batteries, has an on/off button, two dials one for the mode you want to use and the other for the flash power. The head rotates easily 180 degrees to the left or right, as well as horizontally to vertical. There is a bounce card which slides out of the back of the head and a wide angle pull up adaptor. I have tested the wireless function which works well and is very easy to setup. Hope this helps

Versatile compact flash
Very competent compact but reasonably powerful flash. The head both tilts and swivels. I have used it successfully with both my Olympus OM-D EM1 and my Leica D-Lux typ 109. Should work well with any of the m4/3 Olympus and Panasonic cameras as well as the "Pana Leicas" but not the M series. The controls are simple and very effective once you have understood how they work. The brief leaflet that comes with the camera is insufficient on its own but full instructions can be downloaded from the Nissin website. The flash comes with a neat carrying case and matching softbox. Strongly recommended.

Brilliant flashgun, once I got a non-faulty one
This flashgun is fully compatible with my Panasonic FZ330 camera, whereas almost all non-Panasonic ones are apparently not; moreover, it is much lighter and neater than any other, including the Panasonic options. It comes in a neat case along with a useful little stand and a diffuser cap. There are many options, so the on-line manufacturer's guide is essential, and generally fairly helpful, although I had to use the camera's own guide as well to find out how to set up the camera with the flashgun, for using off-camera without a wire connection. Having done so, the i40 performed well, and will be easy to use. the reason I did not give 5 star rating is that the first TWO that I was sent were faulty, in different ways. Amazon was as usual very helpful, immediately dispatching a replacement and making the return process easy and free. Third-time lucky, I now have what seems an excellent gun.

Great product and great technical support.
Bought this to partner my Olympus OMD micro four thirds camera. The small size makes it an ideal companion for CSC cameras and, as it is much cheaper than Olympus' own flash, it seemed to be the best choice for my Olympus. It can be fired as a wireless slave (RC) as well as supporting High Speed (FP) mode. Unfortunately, after six months of use, my unit did develop a fault - when in TTL mode, the flash would no longer fire and the front LED started flashing. However, after getting nowhere looking for a solution on the internet, I contacted Nissin technical support who replied within a few hours, sending 'Dial Position Calibration' instructions (which, I think, is some sort of system reset). Following this procedure completely resolved my problem and the flash is now working perfectly again. In case anyone else needs this information, here are the instructions: ******************************************************************* Here is the steps for Dial Position Calibration. 1. Install batteries on i40, close the battery door (Don’t turn ON the flash) 2. Turn BOTH DILES clockwise to the end position 3. Pass and Hold Pilot LED 4. Pass and Hold Power Button Together 5. Release Pilot LED 6. Pass Pilot LED (Pilot LED will become Blue) 7. Release Power Button (Pilot LED will become Green) 8. Wait unit i40 auto power off 9. Finish If the flash doesn't power off itself and holding on step 7. It may related to the hardware problem. *******************************************************************

Works with Leica Q2 in manual only.
Very good! Thought I've just leave a review to let people know that this works on the Leica Q2 but only in manual (so no TTL). Wasn't a deal breaker for me. I imagine this is the case with other cameras but I can only confirm with the Q2. I was looking for a cheap alternative to the leica SF40 and this seems to be doing to job so far.

i40 lacks quality - avoid.
Stopped working in automatic mode with Panasonic M4 after first use. Now the built in camera flash is better. Only works in manual mode.

Perfect companion for mirrorless
I love this flash. After moving to the micro 4/3 system, my full size FL-50R and Yongnou 560s seemed ridiculously big on my E-M1 so I was looking for something more sensibly sized and this one was recommended to me. It's so small that I can bit it into a side pocket on my camera bag, and produces enough light for use in a typical indoor scenario in a house bouncing off a nearby wall or ceiling. I love the manual controls too - so simple to use! A final feature I was really impressed with is the quick release mechanism for the hot shoe rather than the traditional screw wheel mechanism - this makes it really fast to attach and detach. I highly recommend this unit.

I have had the Nissin i40 flash for a couple of weeks now. I am very happy with my purchase. This flash is being used on my Panasonic LX100 MFT Camera. For those not aware the LX100 has a Leaf Shutter, this enables me to sync the flash to the camera up to 1/16000 of a second. When the flash is in TTL or Manual the flash syncs up to 1/4000 of a second. When the flash is set to TTL or Manual and the HSS is enabled on the flash I can sync the flash up to 1/16000 of a second with the electronic shutter on the camera. The flash is what I would call the perfect fit for my LX100 without overwhelming it. As for flash output power, the Nissin i40 is quite adequate. In all but the more demanding situations for amateur & semi professional/professional photographers I think the Nissin i40 will meet your needs. Recycling time is normal for a flash of this size if you are not pushing the flash in extreme situations. Manual Mode is where I like to be to control the flash output giving me control over the flash output power. If you are in a hurry then of course use TTL mode, it works great. Yes, you can spend the money on a larger and more expensive Flash, but ask yourself how much more flash do you really need. For the price, the Nissin i40 flash meets my needs.
