Varilight - 2 Gang 1 or 2 Way 2x400 Watt Push on/Push off Standard Dimmer Switch Classic White Plastic - HQ83W

We've had this for about a year to control our main ceiling light and uplighters. No problems thus far. Performed flawlessly and with only a slight buzzing that you wouldn't hear unless you put your ear right up to it.

I bought this to replace another Varilight double dimmer switch that failed after two years. One set of lights it controlled suddenly started flickering and would only light dimly. A previous one survived only three years of relatively light use. The switch is easy to fit - I just copied the wiring connections from the old switch - and it works fine with a positive click when switching on or off. The rotating dimmer action is smooth and nicely weighted so you can adjust it to exactly the level needed quite easily. It is supplied with screws to fix the switch to a recessed wall box though no white screw cover caps. All in all, a good switch but it loses one star for a question about reliability/longevity.

Good product and does not hum. The cable connectors are small and all together hence a bit of a fiddle for DIY, but manageable. The switches are made top to bottom ie the connectors for one are on top the other on the bottom. C L1 and L2 are all very close together and wiring has to be precise. I had a number of cables to connect and found it easier to reduce the number of wires to one or two only.Would recommend product.

Doesn't work. Installed today, months after buying it. Previous switch started becoming unreliable so ordered a new one. One light comes on, but very dim, then flickers and brightens randomly before dining again. The other is not working at all. Using proper dimmable bulbs that worked fine with another switch.

I was attracted to this item as my two gang switch had gone on the blink and one side wasn't dimming. I was about to enter the lighting shop when I suddenly remembered the internet! Surprising how many times that happens. This item was a match and had good feedback. I got it quickly at a good price and just switched off the fuse and changed it. Has now been happily working for two weeks. Needed a bit of jiggling to get it into place, but that was due to the backbox and not the switch.

Seems like a great dimmer for a white plastic double dimmer. Clean no-nonsense face plate Good positive action on knobs. Strong internal parts and easy to wire. Good instructions. Manufactured to high stannard. Zero flicker. Zero hum. Smooth increase in light upon turning knob. Highly recommended.

Build quality seemed ok, but the item I received was NOT suitable for (dimmable) LED lighting, therefore I simply returned it. I thought I'd checked this in advance, but apparently, I wasn't diligent enough (or I made a mistake when buying) so beware.
