Good drive poor shipping
Good drive. Poor shipping. The drive itself works fine. However the shipping was terrible. I ordered two 4T drives and a NAS. It took 2 weeks to arrive then one of those drives was damaged and in operable. I returned it and order another. The replacement came 3 weeks later. Just in original packaging with no over box or padding. Lucky this one worked but could have been damaged easily the way it was shipped. Definitely not what i expected from an Amazon retailer.

Synology DS216j. Drives work great.
Been using this in my home synology nas for the last year and it’s been really good. No issues, great drives.

Works great for a home NAS
I rebuilt a failing TrueNAS server using four of these in a RAIDZ1. I'm using 2.5Gbps and the drives are plenty fast for a couple of file shares and as storage for a small home Proxmox cluster. They run cool and consistent between 22 and 31 degrees Celsius with minimal direct cooling. Do yourself a favor and label the drives with the SNs so you can easily identify a drive when one fails. I bought these to replace 6 year old WD Reds so they should be reliable and good for the price.

Perfect backup drive
I have a Western digital NAS and this drive worked perfect to add to my raid. Installed quickly and within minutes I was up and running with extra resilience.

Sold On These WD Red NAS and other Drives
This is our fourth WD Red NAS hard drive. I am using it in a 4 bay QNAP NAS Enclosure. I started with 2 drives and in time added another - unfortunately, Seagate NAS followed by a fourth WD Red. The NAS enclosure seems to perform constant disk I/O for virus and media scanning. It seems to exercise the drives quite a bit to the point where the Seagate NAS drive died. (BTW, I did tried a desktop drive in it before and it did not last long.) After 2 drive failure in the enclosure and the WD never gave me any problems, I decided never to buy another Seagate Drive, (I also have couple of other Seagate drives fail in external enclosures,) and only buy WD Red NAS drives for use in NAS enclosures. (I also only purchase WD Drives including their external Black Drives.) The WD is slightly slower and cheaper then the Seagates drives but data reliability is much more important. I have not have any WD failures for all my drives, only to outgrow the drive capacity. I have been in the computer field for over 40 years.

Review: My rocky two-year run with WD Red Plus 4TB drives
I built a small TrueNAS box with four WD Red Plus 4TB drives. Within the first year, one drive began throwing SMART errors. Because past RMAs with WD had taken a month or more, I bought a fifth drive out-of-pocket to keep the NAS healthy while I waited on support. Things went downhill from there. Eventually two drives started failing around the same time—the point where this whole troubleshooting saga began. I tried to use a “white-label” WD replacement they’d sent me the year before (kept sealed as a cold spare), but it was dead on arrival. That pushed me to buy a sixth drive to stay afloat and RMA the DOA unit. When the RMA replacement finally arrived, it lasted about two weeks before it started logging read errors and then disappeared entirely from the system. I opened another RMA. As of now, I’ve purchased or received a total of 8 WD Red Plus drives and 5 of them have failed in some way (including the DOA spare and the two-week wonder). I’m still waiting on two outstanding RMA replacements, and I’ve just added another drive to the RMA queue. This round, I cut my losses and bought a Seagate IronWolf Pro 4TB to replace the latest failure. What went well When they work, performance and acoustics are fine for a home NAS. WD does honor RMAs. What didn’t Reliability (for me) was poor: 5/8 drives failed within ~2 years. RMA speed: turnarounds often stretched to a month or more. Confidence hit: receiving a DOA replacement and a replacement that died in ~2 weeks eroded trust. Verdict Based on my experience, I can’t recommend WD Red Plus 4TB drives. The failure rate, DOA spare, and slow RMA cycle created too much risk for my data and too much hassle for me. I’ve moved to Seagate IronWolf Pro to restore some confidence in the array. Tips I learned the hard way Test every spare immediately (SMART short + long) so you can RMA within the seller’s return window. Monitor SMART weekly and schedule ZFS scrubs; act on “pending sector” or read-failure alerts right away. Keep a known-good spare on hand to minimize downtime while RMAs drag on. Your mileage may vary, but this was my honest, first-hand experience with WD Red Plus 4TBs.

Good but no sata cable included
Popped it in and it works. SMART test shows its healthy. WARNING it does not come with a SATA cable so be ready for that (motherboard box came with extras so I was covered there).

A solid reputation on WD drives, this one unfortunately had to go back
I have a home NAS that is filled with WD RED drives. I wanted to expand the capacity, so I was replacing a 1TB drive, with this 4TB drive. Unfortunately, even with much time spend with support, I could not get my Synology NAS to recognize this drive. The belief was that the drive was not working. So I returned it (and purchased again. that drive did work as expected, right away). So I did just happen to receive a flawed drive. Would I purchase again: Yes Would I recommend to others: Yes

Installed in my NAS and working well. Up to the usual high standard I have come to expect from Western Digital.

Preis/Leistung OK. Empfehlenswert!
