Would this be suitable for metal jewellery stamping (on sterling silver) - my current hammer is a 1lb jewellery one and too weak to leave an imprint?

What are you stamping the jewellery on? It needs to be solid like a block of would on the floor. If you are doing it on a desk that might be why it is not effective. I use a 24oz ball pein hammer for stamping cast eyebolts and that is fine.

what length is the handle

Hi This hammer is 8.5 inches long and the actual handle part where you hold is about 5 inches and 1.25 across. Nice and soft to avoid jarring. So a good strong 4pound head tool. I have big hands so fits just fine.

Wow, that woz intrresting. Couldn't find my hammer coz ad hidden it in a bag of clothes otherwise it would grow legs. I've kept wodering why this bag of clothes woz so heavy. Now I know. I tried the kitchen scales but when it reached 4.8 lbs it flipoed back then died. So I tried the bathroom scales and it DIDN'T reach 5lbs - I've got another scale that you hang from a hook. I bought to weigh big awkward stuff to sell on ebay. Once again it DIDN'T reach 5lbs so my conclusion is that it IS more or less a 4 lb hammer. Hope this helps - Sorry I didn't provide video footage. I don't think there is any mark on it. The hammer is already dirty and used and there is no chance to see any more. But I can guarantee is a good hammer.
