Pitsco Medium Density Balsa Wood Strip (Pack of 100)

My daughter entered into a balsa structure contest, and wanted some balsa wood to get started. We'd got a few pieces from the hardware store, and they seemed to work well. We're now using these Pitsco ones, and its apparent that the density is much higher than the ones we got at the hardware store. When the title of the wood was Medium Density, I expected something similar to what we'd already bought (~120 kg/m^3), but these are much more dense (~200 kg/m^3).

This one deserves a ZERO Star! Too bad, the worst star is 1 at Amazon.I purchased this one two weeks ago, but AMAZON FIRST Shipped me a big piece of wood!! Yes, not the 100 balsa stripes, but a BIG PIECE of wood. What kind of mistakes could be?Then, I returned the big wood for replacement, after few days, I received the replacement, but it had only 36 stripes inside. I checked the package label, it showed the correct parts number. Then I called amazon, Amazon agreed that I could keep the 36 stripes and they are going to send me a new one. It was a nice deal, isn't it?Few more days, I received the 3rd shipments, this one was even worse than the 2nd one!! IT also ONLY HAS 36 stripes in it, but all of them were BROKEN Already!I think Amazon's listing is completely incorrect, since the parts number matched the description. THIS ITEM IN AMAZON'S Warehouse is only 36 balsa stripes, not 100 stripes! If you order it, be prepare to get only 36 balsa stripes.Also, shipping packaging was very poor, the box was a little bit shorter than 36 inch, I guess they pushed the stripes into the box, this could be the reason that the 3rd one got broken.If anyone wants to buy this item, think it twice, the time and the troubles you likely to have are not worth to deal with!I am still in process for refund. I hope Amazon, as always, will at least issue a refund in a timely manner to make me happy.

What I received was good quality balsa. Most of the sticks were lighter than the advertised density in my batch with 75 percent of the sticks weighing in between 1.05 and 1.20 g. I'd say that 90 percent of the negative reviewers don't have experience in building competition towers/bridges . If you're just beginning building and don't know what density of balsa you want, there are other options at half the price that will work for you. Personally, we were looking for sticks in the 1.25-1.5 g weight for science olympiad towers. We haven't had much luck finding medium weight sticks this year and this was the closest we've found to what we need.

we bought 13 packages this year for Odyssey of the Mind, First ten were fine. Last three were all heavy density. As the result, right before competition we are having to buy them at the hobby stores

Don't get me wrong the wood is decent, pretty flimsy though. But don't waist your time or money. If you are building bridges or anything else that can be made with Popsicle sticks, use Popsicle sticks. You could get 6,000 Popsicle sticks with the money you would have spent on this. It's just so much easier, you don't have to cut anything or worry about them breaking. I just wanted to avoid the round edges of Popsicle sticks, but looking back Popsicle sticks would have been way better.

Blasa wood stick. Arrived 100, yes I have counted. This is exactly as expected, lighter density product. Bends easier, breaks too :-)I needed it for practicing of balsa wood bridge project for school. Worked like a charm. Thank you. Nothing broken, delivered fast for 20 hours of continuous fan... If you ar elike me doing it for bridge projects, add 200% time to what you plan

This bundle was paper thin. Pieces broke when I unbundled it.Ended up throwing most away.I have purchased this product before and it was of good quality. This last bundle was terrible.I'll try another supplier next time.GBusse
