ParkTool CC-3.2 Kettenverschleiß-Indikator-Werkzeug

Bought this tool to keep track of chain wear. Previously I had been using my vernier calipers but this is just so much more convenient. Its designed on one side to indicate 0.5% wear and on the other side to indicate 0.75% wear. The idea being you change your chain when its 0.5% worn but no more than 0.75% worn. It works perfectly on my Shimano Ultegra R8000 11 speed drive train setup. Robust, well designed and well made like all Park Tool products.

This seems fairly pricey for what it is, in fact I did order a cheaper one which failed to arrive (refund given). However I'm glad in a way to add this to my collection of Park tools. Usual Park quality, dead simple to use and really the definitive way to check chain wear. In a way this can save money in the long term, either encouraging you to buy a new chain before it wears the sprockets or even maybe stopping you from replacing a chain prematurely. Tempting though it is to knock off a star due to the high cost that would seem somewhat unfair as I knew the price and simplicity of item when ordering. I should have bought one years ago.

Finish isn't great but seems precise enough for a simple tool.

this gadget already saved me money. Bike shop was saying I needed to change the chain to not wear out my gears. A quick check showed that the chain is far from worn out and has some life left in it. Great to be able to identify when I need to really change the chain (and not get connd by rouge bike mechanics)

Useful tool to have around when maintaining bikes. Park tool quality can't go wrong. Good price too

In famiglia abbiamo 5 biciclette di varie tipologie, senza contare quelle di amici e parenti. In pratica penso io alla manutenzione di tutte per quanto mi è possibile oppure le porto dal meccanico ciclista amico per i lavori un po' più impegnativi. Confrontato l'attrezzino con altri similari lo ritengo molto valido perchè meno tollerante di quelli che illudono di avere una catena ancora buona quando invece era da cambiare già da tempo. Mi riferisco ad attrezzi simili a questo ma che, invece di indicare un allungamento già allo 0,5 %, entrano tra le maglie solo quando l'usura è già allo 0,75 %. Allo 0,75 % di allungamento la catena è già da cambiare ed è meglio cambiarla subito a meno di voler poi sostituire come minimo almeno anche il pacco pignoni. In passato (remoto) ho commesso più volte l'errore di aspettare QUASI l'indicazione di un altro attrezzo che ancora non passava all' 1,0 % e, tutte le volte, ho dovuto poi cambiare subito anche il pacco pignoni perchè la trasmissione rumoreggiava, grattava e, ogni tanto, la catena scavallava i denti dei pignoni. Si può ben immaginare che in quelle condizioni anche una catena nuova fa presto a "friggersi" lei stessa !!! e ... ci si può anche far male, soprattutto se in mezzo al traffico in strada. Ora ho l'abitudine di sostituire le catene subito o poco dopo che questo attrezzo ParkTool 4001186 mi segnala un allungamento dello 0,5 % e i pacchi pignoni digeriscono parecchi cambi di catena. Ovvio che si consumano anche loro usandoli ma molto meno. Questo attrezzo è inciso con scritte chiare e indelebili, è in acciaio con nichelatura satinata, pesa 44 grammi (su bilancina elettronica), è lungo 175 mm, largo max 50 mm e spesso 1,9 mm. La finitura è molto soddisfacente pur essendo un oggetto molto semplice. Consigliatissimo.

What's not to like about this item? This chain wear indicator provides a very precise idea of how much wear one's chain has. In this way, one can easily gauge when his or her chain needs to be replaced, which can end up saving a lot of money in cassette replacement down the road. The Park Tool chain wear indicator is more expensive than other off-brand chain wear indicators on Amazon, but in my opinion this one is worth the added expense. Most wear indicators on Amazon test for a chain stretch of either 0.75 or 1%, but this one from Park Tool checks for 0.5 or 0.75% stretch instead. The 0.5% measurement is especially useful for chains that are designed for cassettes with more than 10 cogs, which includes a lot of road bikes. Unless one primarily rides something like a single-speed bike, the Park Tool is way more versatile.

Para mi es importante tener mi bicicleta al 100% y evitar gastos mayores por desgaste de cadena. Esta herramienta es muy facil de usar y util para detectar cuando es necesario reemplazar la cadena de la bicicleta de 12 velocidades. Si una cadena no se reemplaza a tiempo, puede dañar todas las estrellas de los cambios de la bici y arreglar esto es muy costoso.
