almost .005" backlash. useless for machining.
these are garbage if you're looking for an indicator for machining. there's almost .005" backlash in this thing, which is pathetic even compared to grizzly's low-end dial indicator, plus it's more expensive than grizzly's low-end dial indicator. i don't know if this is a case of amazon's "good god sell the returns first!" policy, or if these just don't cut it, but don't waste your time if you need anything nearing accuracy. for that matter, don't buy metrology equipment from amazon, period. you're probably going to receive something that's already been returned.the red is nice though.

Solid build and smooth movements - Great dial Indicator
After buying a different, cheaper dial indicator the "TEKTON 7169 0-1-Inch Dial Indicator" and it dying within minutes, (the internal spring came off it's hook and the cogs wouldn't mesh as the bracket had shifted). I decided to spend a little bit more and try this one. Straight away the weight and feel made it seem miles better and after a few weeks of using it on my table saw and drill press I'm still very impressed.Having that little bit more accuracy is also handy to get things really flat.If you don't want to spend $100's on dial indicator I would highly recommend spending at least a couple more over the really cheap dial indicators for this one.

Not bad for the price, but don't expect too much.
Durability is fine for home use. Precision is also generally more than good enough for dialing in a 4 jaw chuck - this indicator is pretty reliable to around 1 thou. I plan to get a nice dial test indicator for measuring values smaller than that. For relatively coarse adjustments, this indicator is quite useful.

Great for me
Used this for my table saw setup. Love this little indicator, but probably more sensitive than I needed. Worked very well and appears to be well made. Time will tell if it holds up, but so far I am extremely satisfied. Bought a Magnetic Base from Harbor freight for about 10 dollars and the two together worked wonderfully.

Great value for the money
It's working better than expected. The .0005 resolution has been great for lathe turning, no guesses when I have to do a .001 dia. pass. It runs smooth and hasn't stuck on me yet unlike other cheap indicators I've used. I don't expect it to last as long as a Starett, Mitatoyo or B&S but it's not presented as such.
