Very interesting story.
Being a fan of Hercule Poirot and Agatha Christie, I enjoyed this book tremendously. Reading about how David Suchet became Hercule Poirot was so enjoyable.

An interesting overview of the life of an actor and of the Poirot series
If you find the Suchet version of the Poirot character to be the best or simply interesting, you'll likely find this book to be a nice read. It provides Suchet's history with the series, discusses his preparation for the role, and its evolution during the course of the series. As a fan of the series, I found all this background material fascinating. It answered many questions that I had had about why the series became so much "darker" in its last few years. Also, not being a student of theater or acting, I found Suchet's experiences and theory of acting equally of interest. He worked hard to master the character, and so had it more or less down pat right from the beginning. Also, it is clear that obtaining the Poirot part, opened doors for him in other acting venues. As far as I could tell from the non-Poirot oriented parts of the autobiographical material, he was never at want for work after the first season or two, although he had struggled a bit to find work before that.

A beautiful tribute
A must read for Agatha Christie Poirot fans written by the man who brought the most authentic version to television. Full of heart warming moments, honest struggles, and unknown stories during the 25 years of Poirot. Thank you, Mr. Suchet.

A Wonderful Look Into A Remarkable Character - If A Little Contrived
I thoroughly enjoyed Suchet's telling of his 25-year journey as the inimitable detective Hercule Poirot, created by Agatha Christie. Having seen the full Poirot series myself, it delightedly took me back to relive each episode through his eyes. I was almost in tears myself as I felt Suchet's sorrow at shooting the last episode.Written as an overview of the 25 years Suchet played the little detective, it was a great backstage-look into a series which won so many hearts. The explanation of some of Suchet's actions seemed overdone and even defensive at times, which made me wonder what other viewpoint he might be rebutting against. But overall it was a fun, insightful read, a must for fans of Agatha Christie's novels, Poirot the series or, like many of us, inextricably both.

Great story and series
Had to read this book after binging the entire series over a month. Mr. Suchet IS Hercule Poirot! The stories are timeless and I will be rewatching them again.

A "Must Have" for Poirot fans
This is a fantastic book and like the Poirot series is enjoyable from beginning to end. I intend to refer to it often as I continue to view my treasured DVDs. I have all of the David Suchet's Poirot series, except #13 that I have ordered and am waiting for it to be released.I had read some if Agatha Christie's books and saw one or two of the Poirot movies but did not become such an avid fan until Mr. Suchet added such charm to Poirot's character. Now I shall never say "Good Bye" to my dear Belgian friend. When I leave for work with a slightly mismatched pair of gloves, I hear Poirot's voice "One must never let one's self go Hastings" and I go back inside the house for the matching glove. Hopefully, Mr. Suchet has added a little of Poirot in most of us.My first time eating a mango was after Poirot's demonstration and now I have the directions and delightful story on page 117.ITV people complain of expense to make the Poirot series - Please keep in mind the money brought it. I have purchased so many things connected with Poirot since the series began. The Christopher Gunning Cds, books, tote bags, Poirot and Agatha Christie charm bracelets, "Death on the Orient Express" earrings to name a few. I dislike reality TV and wouldn't own a TV if it wasn't for quality programs such as these. I hope the brilliant screenwriters, producers and directors mentioned in this book will bring Poirot back to life and continue with Miss Marple and other Agatha Christie stories.

Beautifully written
It was a joy to read and hear of Mr. Suchet’s experiences in portraying Hercule Poirot. No other actor has portrayed him faithfully as written that I have ever seen. The effort he put into developing the look, walk, clothing, and voice that would be authentically “the little Belgian” was amazing. And it has been worth it for all of us who have enjoyed the show so much. When I read a Poirot mystery now, I see and hear his Poirot. If you listen to audiobooks, I highly recommend the recorded version of this book so that you can hear the author’s words in his own voice (and sometimes in Poirot’s!).Mr. Suchet, thank you for sharing your experience with us.
